I have thousands of articles promoting hundreds of sites. few have gone down in ranking where I used spun articles to spam hundreds of articles. However the ones where I submitted unique articles and used them along with other regular non spammy link building techniques, they are still rocking.

 

totally agree with that, in most cases you are getting hit by google due to spamming, whenever we found a new way to build backlinks there are going to be a lot of automatic software coming out to help you minimize the efforts, but someone would use them as their spamming tools, the same tools,the same strategy,but different method, then different results. if you want a longterm benefits from ranking, keep away from spamming.

Yes, it has big role but only quality and high pr article directories can be considered.

I see lots of spam article directories where spun content is posted, keep yourself away from those article directories in this penguin time.

The key thing to remember is that you can't spam. You still need to produce high quality content and make sure you diversify your anchor texts.

I wouldn't rely on just article submissions, but I for sure wouldn't take them out of my SEO strategy

 

I agree with both previous posts and i would add that article writing should be at first place with unique content but i know that everyone already knows this anyway.
