Yes it does. Sometimes Google doesn't even cache the duplicate content pages. Best it does to duplicate content page is to put it in supplementary results page.
It's best to partially rewrite your article for each submission. You don't have to totally rewrite, but just reword some of the sentences and paragraphs.
Make sure when you submit an article that it is unique... google will not like duplicate articles and you could get penalized

if they are going to copy your article they must place the url of your site or the page where they get the article.
Yes make sure the content is unique.. go after unique content only. For example our links at http://www.contextual-style.com are all unique with very high editorial status.
google doesn't penalize for duplicate content. i can tell you this from experience. what is does do though, is give priority to the first website to get the content.
Google will penalise you for duplicate content, so don't do it, or do it very rarely. Original contents wins everytime and will help your serps ranking too.
Duplicate content is not the way to go. Unique articles will rank much much better and drive a lot more traffic.

why just copying form other site? why not re-write them spending few minutes or use an article spinner program to spin the article and make them unique? if you just need one article, then best to just re-write the article on your own

You CANNOT copy and paste articles for article submission. You must write unique articles then submit them to article directories.
