Article Ranks - Same Topic Blog??

I'm considering trying to set up a blog to earn credits for http://www.articleranks.com.

Does my blog have to be on the same topic as the links I want to trade it for? For example, can I set up a web design blog and then earn credits for property articles?

I've heard that blogs must be pr1 and I think I'd find it easier to get backlinks for a web design blog.

Links swapped or linked between unrelated sites have little to no value to search engines. So of course you would need to blog on the same topic as the links you want to trade for.

nathonseo - many thanks. I realise that you want links from related blogs. My question is: can you trade links from myweb design blog for links for other people's property blogs? Or do you have to trade property blog links for property blog links?

As stated, I think I'll find it easier to build up links to a web design blog but will go down the proeprty blog route if I have to.

Unbelievably inaccurate! – Of course the two sites content / relevance doesn’t have to match for the link to have weight and value to the SE this helps sure, and keeps your link profile looking nice but would you turn a link down from the home page of Yahoo? Didn’t think so ..when sites go Viral on Digg.com, Mashable, etc and get linked in from 100’s of general blogs/sites they all count and weighted very well. We run tons of tests and I work in a pro SEO company (as an SEO/Link Man)for 4 years so pretty sure 
To end yes its very good when you get nice content links to your site about Spain from pages on What to do in Madrid but more quality of the page counts not just ‘relevance’.

And poster above - Yes thats fine AR you can just earn credit and spend it how you like.
Impressed with AR but would only keep it as 5-10% of your linkpower more for just more into the mix, wouldnt use for a basis of the campaign. Still good for what it is though.

You get links from people looking for free content in exchange for giving you some links, so the sites are not great. But the network only takes site with at least some BL/PR and works well get pretty damn White Hat really just some content for link system and the page with your links is just for you normally on the blog and links in content and proper text.

Some 'spinning text' (though to keep articles unique and is by hand) and is a 'system' so light grey I guess Wont hurt you at all just not very powerful so dont use as yout link getting - as above would say just for some more blend.

Hope that makes sense, Still need the quality links this can get you some lower level but still incontent ones :)

    No.

In fact, I think you are better off not having it be the same category as the articles you plan on writing (assuming of course that you are linking back to the same domain - if not than this is totally irrelevant.)

Why? Because you'll probably end up with a lot of reciprocal links if they are the same category! And as you probably know, the search engines tend to discount those. You want one way links pointing towards your site.
