SEOmoz has an interesting article on title tags. I have been considering the modification and tweaking of my title tags. After reading this article, I'm leaning towards the following: Page Title | Site Name The description would contain my keywords for that particular page. The avantage of the Site Name is two-fold -- gives me an ability to brand my site and looks less spammy both the engines and end users. I recently came across a hack for Joomla (CMS I use) that allows some great modification of meta-tags -- something that was sorely missing in the basic install of Joomla. However, it changes the title tag to: Page Title I'm doing very well with my rankings, so any move always causes a bit of trepidation. My current title tags are: Page Title | Keywords at Site Name Any feedback, opinions and insight is as always greatly appreciated.
You could use the SEF Patch by Joomlatwork or modify your joomla.php file (in the includes folder). The SEF patch does some good things, but I'm not thrilled with the formatting of the title tag. It uses just the page title. The patch does allow you to modify meta tags from page to page and modify your homepage's title. I'm currently using both -- on different sites. -Chris
