Article Marketing vs. Your Own Website

I would like to have a quick discussion on the two different methods of marketing affiliate products.

    Article Marketing:
    Pros:
    • articles are indexed faster than on your new website, and receive quality google rankings quickly
    Cons:
    • should ezine or whichever directory close up shop, you're out of luck
    • many 'holes' on the page allow readers to navigate away before reaching your designated link
    • another company makes $ off your work by placing ads alongside etc.
    • long, arbitrary approval process

    Using your own website
    Pros:
    • you maintain control over the site, the links
    • instant approval
    • no restrictions on how you write your content
    • the ability to change your article at any time
    Cons:
    • slower to rank in google, and you must build links yourself

By looking at this list, it is pretty obvious that using 'your own website' is the better method. So is the reason people choose to submit their articles to directories simply because they can't afford the domain plus hosting fees, and/or lack the knowledge to set that all up?

For those of us who have the expertise to create our own websites and understand SEO, is there any question that we should choose to make our own site?
Thanks guys, look forward to hearing what you all think.

My vote goes to Article Marketing + Your own site. This combination works best in my opinion.

With Article Marketing you're building valuable one way backlinks to your website that will increase it's rankings in the search engines. You can just send targeted traffic to your website from the articles and you can promote any product in the niche that you want, depending on what converts.

thanks for your input blich, here's my problem with that.

you can't post the articles you post on ezine on your own website, or at least they won't help you in any real terms... i could see posting your 'junk stuff' to ezine, but keep the quality stuff for your own site.

Sure, I always post different articles on ezine and my site. Of course, articles with better quality are posted on my site.

that method sounds like it could work blich. Hoping that eventually, more traffic will be driven to your offers through your own site than the article directory's.

For the most part, I like retaining the rights to my stuff, so I'm more apt to put it on my own site and wait for the search engines to find it. However, I do have some throwaway stuff from time to time, and that stuff I will put on the article sites.

    I think,
For niche keywords like "5 steps to increase height" it's really helpful to post articles on ezines or articlesbase as they will list quickly in search engines and it's really fat procedure.
If you learn bum marketing - (one of the article marketing method) then you will list in top position in Google.

Also, for generic keywords like "increase height" you have to maintain a website and do SEO everyday for it.

That's the secret, while many internet marketers like to do article marketing.

Most vendors use articles to expose their name, thus to promote their products. Most of them still use PPC and affiliates to promote.
