Please Follow My Case Study to See if Article Marketing Really Works...

Over the past few weeks, I have been researching over here at DP and elsewhere to see if Article Marketing really works... I get all sort of answers... I get answers from people that doesn't even write articles... So in order to come around that, I have setup an experiment for myself... I want you to follow me and benefit from my experiment as well...

I will be spending my time and money to post at least one meaningful article on the Ezine Articles Directory weekly. I will be posting the progress here, click through rate, links, views, etc...

If you have ideas, share them with me. If you think I should be submitting my articles to another directory, share it with me here. If you think I am crazy to submit quality content to these article directories, then tell me I am crazy... At the end of the day, I need answers... and I am going to get them... and I need your help...

What I can commit to you is that I will ONLY submit meaningful articles... I will not make up articles for the sake of it... I believe in providing good content. As you can see below, my first article was long and meaningful.

Please see below for my progress on the the first article I've submitted. Please comment on the ratio, etc... Is it normal? Should I be getting more...

    Progress so far:

    - two days ago I've submitted a 1400 word article to Ezine
    - Today it was approved (very quick turn around in my opinion). It was approved only a few hours ago...
    - You can see the article here: Tips on Increasing Blog Traffic - Take Advantage of Free Blog Traffic
    - Views so far: 10
    - Clicks on links: 2
    - Click Through Ratio: 20%

I will definitely be following you on this, but I already know article marketing works.

Just what websites and directories work better is what your looking for, right?

I have tried article marketing in the past and posted about 30 articles but never really saw any profits. I was linking to CPA offers. You said you posted an article with over 1200 words. WOW, that is a long article. I would recommend cutting that up and posting three articles. I think you will probably get more clicks that way. I was getting about a 14% CTR on my EZA articles.

Anyways, goodluck. I am curious to see your updates.

1200 is way too long and will probably harm click through. Go for 250-350 words, place the link as the last word of the article and a very short keyword optimized link in the bio and your click rates should increase.

    Nice article :)

I think its wise of you to post meaningful quality articles in the long run. There are a few things I recommend you to do:

    • Submit your author rss to rss directories

    • Split and rewrite this article down to about 4-500 words, submit them to goarticles.com, articlealley.com, searchwarp.com and isnare.com - add a link to the ezine article in the body (it could work if you use it as reference) or in the resource box.

Two things you should aim for; SE ranking and more visitors reading the ezine article. The more people who reads your the better ranking will you have in ezine directory, which means, more traffic.

Good luck with your project, keep us updated

Thanks for sharing the insight into article marketing. I have done article marketing and distribution some time in the past, and they do help in obtaining some backlinks. But I didnt see much traffic being driven from the websites I submitted to (ezine articles).

Sounds like an interesting experiment... I'll sure follow you to see how it goes. I also believe that you should submit smaller articles though when submitting to Ezine. Good Luck!

    Good luck with your experiment.

I think it can work if you post high quality articles that offer original good content, then hopefully webmasters with good sites will pick up your articles and use them, that's what you really want.

BTW nice article you have posted.

most people dont read a 1400 words article unless it is really breathtaking. if you are using CPA offers, then you dont need to post any more than 250 words as EZA will approve 250 words articles given thatn it is informational.

not sure about your plan of action, but one article to EZA will not give you very much test results. to get some decent views and URL clicks, you will need to submit a LOT. also try other article syndication services aside from EZA which will give you more traffic

i do article marketing all the time and i can tell you that it works, given that it is done properly. good luck with your test

I tend to write 430 to 700 words, but my longest is over 900. For the record I have 11 published articles with 209 views(6.2% ctr) The oldest article is 1 week.

I agree with the person that mentioned 250-words. They get posted and they are still more than anyone is ever going to read even if the content is the greatest read ever.

Yep - 1400 words is way too long. You could have split it into three articles - part 1, part 2 and part 3.
Why dont you extend your case study and test large articles vs split articles?

Good luck with it and keep us posted !

Looks like you put a lot of work in your article. Yes, these are pretty good stats for only 1 day.

    Nice idea! I agree.

Thank you for all of the comments on this so far. This is very encouraging and I am hoping to find answers to a lot of questions. I hope it helps everyone.

It seems like we have consensus among the above comments to do the following:

    a) keep the article short (300 to 400 words)
    b) post the link towards the end of a short article
    c) submit author rss to rss directories (Where to? Please give examples)

The next article I submit, which will be either today or tomorrow, will be a short article. I will see how the click through rate changes on that article.

Here are my reasons for a long article:

    a) wanted to stand out
    b) I want others to refer to my article (i.e. bloggers to use it, etc)
    c) Google and other search engines may validate as a good piece of article among all other short articles

    What do you think?

Progress So Far with the First Article (Tips on Increasing Blog Traffic - Take Advantage of Free Blog Traffic):

    Clicks: 6
    Click Through Ratio: 9.8%

It seems the click through ratio is also falling. The number of views seems to be steady for the first two days. We will see see how it changes over the next few days.

You have to submit more articles in order to increase more traffic to your site. If you've submitted more articles, it means that you're building backlinks to your site and you would be surprised that visitors were directed from your old EZA articles.

At this moment, please concentrate on increasing the volume of your article submissions as well as providing value for your readers.

A 250-word article doesn't need to be spammy, it just needs to have a couple of links. Besides, they get posted and promoted just as much as 400 and 500 word articles.
