Again, it completely depends on several factors:
    - Competition in niche
    - Conversion of the particular product
    - Author's writing skill
    - Keyword research

I'm just getting started with all kinds of marketing, but I pretty much agree with what everyone's said; it depends on the author's skill level and competition, along with the more "technical" stuff like keyword choice. I've had moderate success with it, but I think I'm a fair writer, at the least, even though stuff like keywords boggle my mind (well, not really anymore, but I'm still looking for a good way to research good keywords), I've set up enough backlinks and have socially networked myself pretty well, so it's still not a bad venture from my point of view.

If you target the right niche and keywords its effective. You should really just try it out and see for yourself. It's not like you have much to lose.

I agree. There is no harm in trying yourself, it can completely depend on the person sometimes.

Articles work for weak-medium keywords (mostly weak ones), but won't get you anywhere in competitive niches.

If you have 5 versions of an article you should be safe to submit to 200+ directories. :)

Article Marketing is one of the effective internet marketing strategy. You need to research keywords to find niches where there are a lot of searches, and also that those searches are by buyers. Then you can begin writing articles and posting them on article sites. The more articles you publish in the niche, the better.

You can always do rewrites of the original article or spin it which is what many people do and say it can be effective, but again depends on the product.

    Hi,

Article marketing strategy can be implemented effectively, provided you don’t make it a sales pitch. Consider following 4 things to make your article marketing strategy effective.

    1. Do some research to find the keywords in your niche that are searched by the people on search engines.

    2. Select the interesting topics in your niche that your readers can't wait to finish reading.

    3. Write articles that will draw in readers from all walks of life.

    4. Write it in a way that the readers will have some fresh content to read in it and will be able to enjoy while reading.

    5. Include a short mind capturing resource box and at least one link back to your website that will entice the readers to click on the link.
