You have to be careful with link directories. They would ask you for reciprocal links to start with and say it will take sometime for review and link to be posted. Most times when you do it in bulk, you might forget about having placed their link and they will never place a link to your blog at all. Article directories and Ask & Answer websites are good for getting targeted traffic and backlinks.
So what do you recommend I do instead? It is a new started niche sites in a sub-folder.. So no backlinks to niche or main domain yet...
It depends on what you want to do. If you can write 500 worded articles for backlinks, then you can try out EzineArticles.com, GoArticles.com,etc. However, if you are looking for long-tail keywords, then you can choose Ask & Answer websites - Here you ask and answer your own posts for valuable back links.
Ask & Answer? Well, it goes something like this. Let us say you have a site on 'puppy training'. What are the different questions your target audience might be looking for? Eg: How to train my labrador?, Please suggest easy dog tricks,etc. So, what you do is post these questions on these ask&answer sites and then provide an honest answer as well. You are allowed to insert links to your own website from your answers. So that way, whenever someone searches for similar questions, these results from ask&answer sites show up and the targeted audience visits your website.

I actually just launched a new link directory to solve the problem of waiting around to see if your link has been submitted... Its the first link in my sig, automatic approved submissions for every link! Regards.
Does someone have a link directory list, where the owner of the directory is still reviewing and accepting new links within a few days?
You can check out http://knewthis.com. Like I said, it is not an article directory, but an Ask&Answer site. Also, here the links get updated immediately and reviewed only after it goes live.
