Do both, if you want better result, don't mass submit with the same articles, at least spin the articles for that.

Short tern press releases can do much better than articles.
Longer term articles can build and maintain better links and traffic generation

I would use both - press releases for letting people know about specific news items related to your site, and the articles to provide interest in reading it and finding out more about you by then clicking through to your site.

Well, a Press Release and an Article are 2 different things...

As in, you definitely could NOT submit a Press Release to EzineArticles. They would reject it before you could even login...:)

An article is basically an informative piece of work on the niche your website or business is associated with. No sales page, or sales pitch, or self promotion.. Just informative content for the world to read.

A Press Release is more of a promotional piece that talks about your actual business, website, products and so-on.

So, what kind of "ARTICLES" are you writing? Also, don't limit yourself to just one article directory.. Got your article on several different sites, forums, blogs, directories and so-on. Have them all syndicated properly and you 'll be ranking on Google in NO-time..

    Hi,

Both are good techniques to gain more inbound links. Find free article/press release directories via search engines and submit your unique content. Some article directories allows hyperlink in article body whereas some directories allows in author description.Hyperlink wherever applicable. This way you can increase your website traffic.

    Thanks

Content is the king. Though I agree with seafrontsteve - press releases work on short term, articles on long term. So do both.

Typically ezine has worked very well for people for long term growth. Hubpages, articlesbase, and squidoo are other tried-but-true sites.

I often find press releases rank fairly well for certain keywords for a few weeks or months sometimes after submission whereas I don't find the same with articles. This makes me think press releases are better for a short term boost.

You should do both of them just like a lot of members here say, but if I had to pick one method then I would go with article marketing.
