Thats a great point that many do not understand.

With the exception of some specialized industries like high finance or high medical, or Fortune 500 which have specific laws and regulations (HIPPAA, Sarbanes-Oxley etc) you don't need to know all about the commodity.

Just about business. and you touched on the hardest parts about owning a business.

The person who makes great spaghetti, decides to open a restaurant. But there is a lot more to running a restaurant.

They had no training in marketing, or leadership, or accounting, yet they have to do all of those things. WHich often leads to frustration, but that is where a GOOD coach comes in.

web design is a commodity, not the actual product, and so a good coach can help you grow that business. In addition, a good coach will give you the skills to be an entrepreneur, so you can then start ANY business you like with confidence.

What portion of sales will be your focus?

ah gotcha... it's probably easier to tell you the kind of people I work with. It generally seems to be small to medium sized business owner that:

    • Are fed up with giving away way too much info to prospects, and kind of feel that they are being treated like an unpaid consultant.
    • Really need to bring in more new business, and understand that cold calling works BUT they feel like the telephone weighs the same as a small elephant when they go to pick it up.

I train / coach people to:

    • stop wasting your time
    • stop leaving money on the table
    • stop handing control over to the customer
    • stop using product knowledge and apilling their guts in sales meetings

    also how to...
    • never close
    • never have to handle objections
    • never sell using features and benefits
    • never discount prices

Sorry if that was a little 'official' hope that builds a picture for you...

    ok,

so mostly inbound phone sales, which is important especially to retailers and B&M biz owners

    never close
    never have to handle objections
never sell using features and benefits
    never discount prices

the last two i preach daily, but the first two...you are going to have to educate me on how that is possible in the real world without hype.

to say never have to handle objections would mean you never GET an objection...
to say you never close, means you never turn a prospect into a customer (or even a suspect into a prospect, and definitely never a customer into an evangelist)

so is that just "salespeak" or do you have a magic wand? :p

in any world where there are humans...an objection will always exist, so it must be "handled"

if you know a world where there are No objections I know a bunch of people your knowlege would be very valuable too

including donald trump, steve case, ziff davis and oprah winfrey

You will absolutely always get objections. The question is, do you feel obliged to 'handle' them, or is there a way to turn them into a flowing conversation to find the real issues that the clients have?

sorry something was wrong with DP when i posted last comment

    i was saying

I met with a young lady that I mentor yesterday. And took her with me to see a client (as I often do when mentoring and it relates to things they need to learn...we later recap the meeting and talk about what they observed and their thoughts etc)

After we talked business, we talked personal.

She is young, just 21, in the military but is not together with the father of her child..so that poses "issues"

I realized, had she been a paying client, we would not have had the conversation we had, and if we did, i would not have said the things I said.

As a MENTOR, I am more involved in the personal life and development of the person, and have the right to speak into their lives "for their own good".

The difference between a MENTOR and a COACH... mentors get PERSONAL

Now there is such a thing as a "life coach" and sometimes that includes psychotherapy...but I think a mentor just outright cares about the individual more than a coach or therapist ever could

in fact my coaching contract discusses the fact I draw the line and will at times make the line clear.

The Articles are pretty straight forward but seem to be a little blunt. Every one has the ability to achieve endless rewards. The first step to anything in life is to understand. By understanding you receive Knowledge. To be successful at anything you have got to learn how people feel about a product and why they would want to buy it. Making someone believe they want a product or service can be hard, so picking your crowd is just as important.

To couch! In our world today it is hard to find honesty and courage in many people. Can you think of any ways or things that could help us be more honorable in our business ties with the people we work with and literally sometimes rely on?

When I say honorable i am meaning having honesty and being a positive thinker to achieve what most people want and need.
I'm a young guy and can only hope to be independant in my work, and ability to make money without selling my time for money.
