The article includes To use a sub-domain or not Sites using a subdomain to good effect To register a new domain, or use an aged one To use a domain that already has a PageRank or not Where to register domains What type of domain extension to use what domain to get - branding & keywords how choosing your domain can affect your image later on To read the article in full, go here; http://www.zorg-links.com/blog/2007/08/10/choosing-a-decent-domain-for-your-bidding-directory/ Feedback Appreciated
Thats a very useful and informative article that will help many both experienced and in-experienced Thank you
This shouldn't be applicable in every case in general. I had BAMS, I always wanted to make a complete resource, over the next few months I would be doing things no one has yet done. But I never make my main domain pass pagerank, traffic so easily to my sub-domain. Infact a every sub-domain must be treated differently. Directory category of BAMS has many featured links/links to it, so many templates launched for its promotion. And link building is constantly being done. Your that statement makes things look so easy! Tomo you might come across so many adding sub-domains and launching bidding directories. Instead you must switch to advice that, always treat each sub-domain/section differently and do a separate link building for it. I am sorry but I see you giving a devil's advice in those lines.
I agree with sunny in the case where you said making it seem too easy and inflamming the reputation of those directory owners who make their main domain very good and add a sub directory for bidding directory and get higher pr because in real case it is not true. Many directory owners treat it like a separate page. My blog << in many sites it is separatedly featured << if they dont have deep links !! Secondly, i have to disagree with the domain extension and SE theory. i have .in extension ... does it mean my site is a cheap site ?? no because .in in reality cost 2 times of a fee of .net and .com I registered it because .in (i like it and there was a reasoning) idk.in I Don't Know Internet << because i wanted idk to be a resource for everybody thats why i go in details with everything at my site ... now buyers may prefer .com because they get more traffic but .info << doesn't reveal that you are cheap.
There is no problem getting other domain extensions. Problem is many people see .info as unprofessional - often used for proxies and smaller turnkey sites. Also there is no problem with .in domains - i have .co.uk domain. My views on subdomains may have been interpretated wrongly. I will personally launch a new directory on a different domain. Often becuase some web directories will not allow sub-domains listed, they only want the main domain only.
