    I can't believe it!!
They are just wasting their time in every sector.where simple warning may work, they are involving the police.
Don't they think what will be the impact of this act to the child's mentality?

This sort of thing is inevitable when you have a a society that not only celebrates but also encourages intellectual mediocrity.

Its when the brain-dead attempt to think that this sort of thing happens.

Oh goodness! I'm glad my sister and nephew's leaving the states by February! I'd be so furious when something like that would happen to my 7-year old nephew. He loves to draw... everywhere!

Imagine the humiliation this caused the young girl. I'm sure she's traumatized! It's just plain stupid.

You are going to compare a brutal dictator who raped, killed and tortured people to a school enforcing a NON-LETHAL rule?

What kind of sick twisted kook are you? Be realistic here...

That is just insane, and shows how screwed up the legal system can be at times. There've been cases where pedophiles and rapists have gotten away with no sentence even when the proof is against them, yet a young girl is arrested for writing a word on her desk. How pathetic.

Willful destruction of public property is a pretty serious offense in the US.. Stopping this problem now is likely the best course of action. It's not like this kid is gonna be stoned, beheaded or in jail for the rest of her life. She gets a good scare, some tough love and ends up back on the right path...

This thread was created if for nothing else than to try to portray the US as an evil place. The truth is, this is a great example of just how well our forum of government and laws work.

Yes, but arresting the kid has gone a little too far. They could have simply called her parents and report it to them. It's not like she was making a chaos in school or holding a gun or stick.

What a waste of time and money spent on something that should have been handled between the school and her parents. What ever happened to going to the principals office and getting detention?

Perhaps, but I'd be willing to bet this probably scared some sense into her... Some parents need a little help in that area... I can see a four year old writing on a desk, but a 13 year old?

What seems extreme is likely school policy to help keep kids from ever showing up with a gun or stick...

While it might seem to be too far, perhaps this is not the first time? Maybe they parents have been called in for other things in the past, who knows. Also, keep in mind that school has changed a lot from when we were kids. Used to be a time when you respected your elders, teachers and other authority figures. Perhaps this school has lost that type of respect. My guess is a trip to detention or the principles office has lost it's kick and they were looking for something more effective?

Whatever the circumstance, I cannot find fault with a public school calling the police especially in a clear case of vandalism, which is what this appears to be about. When you pay a hefty property tax bill, it is hard to find fault with an institution that tries to both protect my involuntary investment, and seeks to straighten a kid out.

It's not like the kid was tazed... I really do not find this to be that shocking...

what the big deal of arresting the kid? Go to other country, you get your shit beat out of you and no one give a darn.

I got beaten by school teacher with stick so many time. I would rather getting handcuffed and take a ride

For me, giving a kid detention is same as give her short jail time, just in different place. And all you think give a kid detention is all right but put her in jail is insane..who is brain dead now....

If this happened in Singapore, the kid would have been publicly caned.
