Google finally decided to crawl the sites in my sitemap, but it barfed. Apparently I had uploaded my sitemap with the following url: http://workfromhomespot.com/sitemap.xml Then I had entered all the url's in the sitemap xml file like this: http://www.workfromhomespot.com/default.aspx Google apparently figured that my pages weren't actually under the site that I had verified for the site map, and decided it couldn't crawl the pages. So, as I say, Argh! Don't be like me.
Quick fix though - could be alot worse And given that Google etc do consider them to be different it's an important lesson with link building, duplicate content etc Sarah
I dont think G will penalize a site for duplicate content because it is showing up the same content on www and non-www versions. According to G Patent, G might look at Whois info etc. to make sure that it belongs to the same owner and will show up one of them in the SERPs instead of penalizing them. Further, it is still unable to distinguish between the copycat and the origional publisher. You can take a look at labs.darkseoteam.com/noarchive about how they managed to create problems for Matt Catt by their tricks ... ;-)
