Hey all. I used to have a PR4 for my site, but I just checked my rank the other day and noticed it dropped to PR3. Now I don't do much SEO for my site, it climbed to PR4 mostly on its own but what could have caused it to fall a level? Also, while I'm here, with 2-300 uniques a day and at PR3, what price could I get for a years link on the front page?
Considering PR is very simple and is measured as a result of quanyity and quality of incoming links, magically the answer to you question is: You now have fewer links to your the page that dropped in PR. OR The links that point to that page are worth less. Or both.
That's probably a big part of the explanation. The internet is competitive in many ways. Most other webmasters are trying to push themselves to the top. So if you are not working SEO-wise on your site, you are very likely to begin to lose ground in the search engine results. And if you are not actively gaining links, most likely you are losing links (and also PR). Unsuccessful directories close. Other sites remove their link to you for whatever reason. In brief, if you are not actively expanding your site, it will almost certainly go backward in comparison to the competition.
Some sites links might not count for Pr anymore. I think you droped Pr because everyone competing with you continued to get more links.
This may have happened to you: Some links are temporary that it may have expired earlier or you have a link from a link farm.
