Anyone can review my new site? AreYouRated.com. I need constructive criticism on functionality, tips, suggestions, adsense placement, flaws, etc.
Please don't take offence to any of this, I'm keeping it constructive, I personally hate the side bar ads, do you use word press for the blog? If so, their are TONS of plug-ins for better ad placement. Second, it looks too jumbled, their is no defined begining or end to the page, I recommend using a header, body and footer, it just flows together better. lastly, your text boxes are white, but the BG is white too, I feel this covers any boldness for the box itself, it kind of just fades into the page making it look like a big blob, I would color the BG of the text boxes (Members' Area, script generator etc) I think you have a good idea going, I think it could work if you clean the site up a bit, I would check out some better templates for your blog SW. Hope this helps. -Kirk-
Thanks for the tips, I don't use any blogging software actually. It was all made from scratch. But yea, I'll try to add colors to the table backgrounds as a start.
template colours very plain and boring, nothin to keep me there layout messy stuff all over the place, recomend buying or hiring a coder to make a new template mayb cost you about $50 or so try find a invite script would help alot/more features needed
I have added some more features to the site and changed the colors around a bit. It should look somewhat better. I'm using IE7 and not sure if IE6 or Firefox or other browsers is displaying it correctly or not.
Blue fonts seems to be hard to read on your background. You did an effort to make nice background, but IMHO I would prefer white or other very light backgrounds.
I agree with banjaluka - blue on dark grey just doesn't work. However, that's not to say that you couldn't try a lightly grey background in this block of content. However, you'd also have to do it to the others (I think, but I'd have to see it) to be consistent. Your profiles crash and die in Firefox - actually, they just lose their positioning. Then there's your forums. If I go from your standard site to your forums, my eyes force themselves shut Seriously, you should have a consistent look from your forum to your site.
I have made a new template with new color schemes. Everything should look fine with both Firefox and IExplorer now. Any comments?
The design loads fast but its not catchy. The title is 2 transparent make it more dark. The caption is not visible. The left side links are hard for my eyes.its paining. Overall its fast loading site thats all.
Website looks good and very simple. But the colors are not very attractive, it looks some what dull.... make sure u put in some bright colors. regards.
Wow. That's quite the change. What happened to the MySpace profile on the front page? Instead of looking custom/real, like the old look, this one looks way too fake (read: created for AdSense). Switch back and try it again.
on the first look, the design looked good. Try to read something, I am not sure I am getting blind, you need to up the font size. thnaks
I'm thinking about changing the layout once again. The space I have to work with is pretty small (example: take a look at the banners or contact tables page, it can only list about 2 to 3 at a time). Anyways, it might be better for me to increase the width of it so I can fit more content in each page (could be better for SEO) and maybe can slap more ad's on it.
It's been about a week, and I have made the layout larger. There is no change as I think there isn't a need to change it again. There are more workspace and I have seperated the sidebars into two sides and the main page adsense placement goes from a single banner, to a 2 link banner as well as a second square 200x200 banner and a featured members box.
The brand is not recognisable enough there is no color contrast and the website seems to fade away into the background. It needs a bit more pizazz!
Its really rather... bland. The logo text tends to disappear as its quite faint and only a picture really stands out and that draws your eye to the centre of the page. I think if you can add a couple of extra rather stricking colours and use them in the text, logo and layout it will contrast a lot better. As ever i loath google ads on sites - the ones you have fit in with the bland design what positioning wise they do overlap other components of the page. Finally the left and right columns don't reach to the bottom white section of the page - hence your left with random grey background gaps on either side!
I was hoping that not looking at this thread for a couple weeks would magically make the site as good as it was before (at least in non-blandness). The intro paragraph should really be broken up into multiple paragraphs. Resizing the profile image to force it into that box is causing some major 'ugly' issues. Maybe limit it by width or height only, if you don't want to bother with a script that limit sizes dynamically. Maybe it's me, but the font-size is way too tiny ... ~J
