I'm curious about some of the publishers' practices... a few questions for everyone: Did you create your websites for the sole purpose of earning income with conextual ads like YPN or AdSense? Or are you just using these ad services to generate a little income on a site that actually provides content and functionality for your visitors? How many sites do you own? How much time do you put into maintaining your sites on an avg day? How much traffic are your sites getting? How much revenue are you generating? (I realize many won't want to answer this one.. no prob!) I for one, only own two websites and neither were created with the intent of earning money from YPN. Of course, I'm very happy to have the ads on my sites and be able to make pretty decent money from them, but that was never really the purpose... Thanks guys
I own 4 live sites, and have several others in various stages of development. The oldest 2 sites I created for fun, and added adsense later as an experiment, basically trying to pay the maintenance costs of the sites. On the last site completed, www.chincoteague-island.net, we added adsense just to fill in some spaces until we could sell local advertising. The unexpected success of adsense means that local selling will be less of a requirement. The sites under construction will be created with adsense or a similar service as the main source of income. The existing sites are all niches, so traffic is light - less than 10,000 visits per day. I spend 2-8 hours a week on the sites usually. I started earning less than $1 a day on all sites, and am approaching $3 a day now, with steady increases most months. It's not alot but the stready improvements have made it worthwhile to keep adding content to those sites and working on the new sites which will be directed at national or worldwide audiences. We also generate income from other sources, local and regional advertisers being the majority of that.
Did you create your websites for the sole purpose of earning income with conextual ads like YPN or AdSense? - No I just start site to prove service to all people Or are you just using these ad services to generate a little income on a site that actually provides content and functionality for your visitors? - yes my money goes to server and other stuff that i make from ads How many sites do you own? - Just own 1 How much time do you put into maintaining your sites on an avg day? - 2 hours day How much traffic are your sites getting? - 2000 Uniqe day
I do!...well kinda...I make my sites to enjoy...and so others can enjoy...but in return I make a bit of $$$
I have a few sites, but I only use YPN on 2 of my sites. None of my site were created for adsense or YPN, it is just a way to earn a little extra money. My 2 sites get a decent amount of traffic, but I do not have YPN ads on every page.
I started out with a site about guitars...decided to try YPN cause I was getting decent traffic..now I have 18 sites, all with ads, some specifically for ads others for general information about random topics of interest. Basically the $$ I make goes to pay for more sites (My hosting company will allow me 50) and for my costs of running the sites. I usually end up with a nice profit also.
hmmm I thought I'd hear from some of the publishers that are putting out the 'made for AdSense or YPN' sites... I always wonder about the guys that are running those spammy MySpace sites (or other topic sites) that have little or no content, just a bunch of ad blocks. I don't think running 30 or 40 spammy sites is something I want to get into, but I'd like to know how well they are doing with those sites, etc. But it seems the ones running those sites don't want to talk about them...
It's shemelous what some people do for the money I build my sites for pleasure and to bring something nice on the internet not just for money ... And my luck is i'm earning my living else where ...
I initially created my current adsense site for my own use. Once my friends got wind of what I was doing, they asked to see it, so I developed a website. They in turn told their friends. It kind of steamrolled from there. I ended up having to spend more money for more reliable data feeds, so added AdSense to pay my costs. 3, but only one uses adsense. None. I opted to spend more time in development automating everything so I would have 0 maintenance. Varies. Some days I get around 700 uniques, others I get around 200. Site is stock market related, so my traffic depends on the sentiment of investors. Weekends typically are my lowest (under 100). No comment.
I have a couple sites with tons of traffic (forums), but I also have about 100 sites designed to show ads. I do both. Traffic wise at least half a million uniques a month.
I create my site just for fun maybe any lucky from my site for add my salary I not seriously to work in online because my work in offline very busy
Did you create your websites for the sole purpose of earning income with conextual ads like YPN or AdSense? - yes, also commission junction income Or are you just using these ad services to generate a little income on a site that actually provides content and functionality for your visitors? - no..but my sites are somewhat useful and have limited content, not like spam or 100% MFA sites. How many sites do you own? - around 20 How much time do you put into maintaining your sites on an avg day? - maybe an hour or 2...spend more time reading / researching and trying new sites to see if profitable with ppc. Most aren't. The hour or 2 of maintenance is usually seo work - tweaks on page and building backlinks. How much traffic are your sites getting? - combined maybe 350 uniques a day How much revenue are you generating? (I realize many won't want to answer this one.. no prob!) - around 150 bucks a day, minus maybe 40 for advertising Started in feb...revenue per visitor is good, I think I got the formula down. Just need more traffic to get the big bucks. traffic traffic traffic
Did you create your websites for the sole purpose of earning income with conextual ads like YPN or AdSense? No, they are a part of my site...not the site itself Or are you just using these ad services to generate a little income on a site that actually provides content and functionality for your visitors? Yep... How many sites do you own? 3 that are live How much time do you put into maintaining your sites on an avg day? A LOT! How much traffic are your sites getting? Good traffic..well one of my sites, the oldest one is an authority site..very well SEO'ed so it's great for my niche How much revenue are you generating? (I realize many won't want to answer this one.. no prob!) Just enough to pay hosting and invest right back into my sites.
ok... interesting stuff! so nextGen and 1Eight... You basically choose a topic that you have a certain amount if interest in and think will bring good RPC and make a simple site out of it. Then you add YPN or AdSense ads throughout. And from there you: 1) Do some limited SEO: link building, optimization, etc 2) buy some advertising (AdWords, etc) I would imagine that you don't put too much effort into SEO since you're not counting on high traffic so much as high CTR, right? I would also guess that you pay a minimum for advertising? At least you'd pay less per click than you would earn with the ads displayed on your site, right? Thanks for being forth-coming. I think I certainly don't want to make spammy sites but have several hobbies, etc that I would like to create easy to maintain sites for. And then I want to find ways to at least monetize the traffic with minimum effort. My main sites are heavily funtional with large online communities and tons of traffic that I have worked hard to build. I'd like to add a few sites that are also fun but that won't require as much daily attention. Thanks again
Nope, mine was just a hobby + getting angry with some forum mods in other sites. YPN came a long and I started thanking all the things that pushed me into webmaster thing. Although I used (and still use some) adsense, fastclick, cj, etc I never took internet advertising very serious until that fat ypn came knocking my door.
creating websites is part of my work and i only work to make money; i only make pages about stuff i'm interested in.
NEVER make a site for the money I own 5 sites, I regret making the 1st one because I made it for making money...I failed miserably...
I started a website without knowing i could make any money from it. But now, many years later, I see some websites as a whole company on its own. And what's the main purpose of a having a company? Being able to live from it. So yes, some websites are made for bringing in money but they should always provide decent information as well.
