Some Adsense publishers are shy of placing ads in prominent and visible locations on their site thinking that that ads might turn away visitors. So they tend to put ads in some corner hoping that visitors will still find them. Well, think from the perspective of Adwords advertisers who are renting space on your blog with the hope of getting prospective customers. Why would they be willing to invest in your site (by buying ads) when they are not getting the expected returns. If you want advertisers to bid on your site, it is advisable that you place ads above the page fold else don’t use Adsense at all. Excerpt from Digital Inspriation - Adsense Optimization.
If advertisers don't get any clicks, they don't have to pay any money. Basically, they're getting their name thrown out there for free. So I see nothing wrong with putting Adsense in a corner where nobody will click it. Whether the publisher will make much money from it, well, that's their problem.
I figure the average person is used to advertising in general by now; T.V., radio, or otherwise. I say as long as it is pleasing to look at in the context of your site and you don't hit people over the head and blind them with ads, place them where ever you like.
I really hate that giant GOOGLE ADSENSE image in the bottom right hand of the ad. It is a signal to people that it is an ad automatically and they'll just skip it.
I am certainly not shy of using adsense, but would prefer the ads are worked into the content so it seems fluid. Converts best that way I have found in my personal experience.
yeah why not put them in the corner, its not like the advertisers is paying for the view or anything, unless of course he is being re-re and is using CPM campaign
Amit, I read your blog regularly and i like your approach towards Adsense ads. I can see that your only have ads on pages and not on homepage. In my opinion, being honest with your visitors is the best policy. Some visitors know that we earn money from the blog. Some newbies dont know this fact. However if u r blunt with the ads, people would accept it and move on. I never saw a decline in my feedburner stats (almost 5000 feed subscribers) because of ads. It continues to grow each day.
