Oh the joy I had showing off the funniest game ever made. Print Pick a number between 1-10 Is is 7? No Is it higher? No Is it 5? They just don't make games like that any more.
The you had the really complicated text games that always ended up going like this: Run North You have found a cabin Open Door Door Opened Look at Window I do not understand..Please Rephrase Find Window I do not understand..Please Rephrase Open Window I do not understand..Please Rephrase You suck I do not understand..Please Rephrase Stop Saying that I do not understand..Please Rephrase Stab Programmer I do not understand..Please Rephrase quit Are You sure? That also reminds me of the day when I would try to get into "Nintendo Power" (I was older than 15 but still young). This was before screen captures etc and you had to take a photo of your high score. They would then put the picture in the back of the magazine.
Hahaha! Yeah I remember that magazine. Oh god it ruled... I remember when mario 3 Came out (After the really rubbish Mario 2)... I used to love getting that raccoon tail and flying all over the place.
The internet killed that magazine. It used to be, Nintendo Power was the only place to get walkthroughs. Then the internet came along and you could download it anywhere.
I remember when Bard's Tale came out for the C64. When I saw animation on the screen for the first time I about fell out of my chair. That was some impressive stuff. I had the C128 and had to hold down the little Commodore logo to get into 64k mode to play a game. Can you imagine? Programs would work in 64k mode, but NOT in 128k mode?
I seem to remember it having music too although that might not have been in the first edition. That came out around the time I was playing my Atari 2600 so I get them confused sometime. Played Pitfall for hours!
Like every game I ended up just trying to torture them. I considered it a victory when "Little Anna Got Measles"
How do you guys remember C64 games? I was like 8 years old. And the only game I remember is Summer (olympic) Games.
I am 25, but had my first computer at 9.. I think I wrote my first program the same year in BASIC which code had only one command 'print' repeatedly - it was a recepie for eggs over easy lol I don't remember the name of my favorite game, but it was something about flying a plain. It was text pannel with bunch of words and numbers and I was receiving warning messages that I was off my course and I had to correct it every time information was changing - the hardest part was landing but I finally land that sucker and was very proud of myself - I was 10 because I remember being in third grade Kinda funny - its pretty much the same as playing ping-pong on a calc but I enjoyed it a lot
Yeah, my buddy in NY bought one with 40 games for $20. We play it during the summer when I am out there. He even has the voice module for B-52 B o m b e r. Baseball was all-time on Intellivision. All of my Atari friends were jealous when we got one.
I remember when sound blaster bundled in a program called parrot. It was a very rough text to audio program. My friends and I used to call up people, put the phone up to the speakers and type insulting things. There was just something so funny hearing dirty words in computerized 8 bit audio. One guy got really mad and thought that I was a guy that had had throat surgery and was using one of those little boxes (electropharynx) in order to speak. He said stuff like, “Just because you can’t speak normal any more isn’t a reason to be a jerk to other people.†Finally he got real mad and said he was going to beat the hell out of me, stomp on my little electrical box, and no one would ever be able to hear me again. Ahhh so much fun with that program.
I think its funny to watch G4 and they do the history on the Atari 2600. I had no idea that when pac-man came out, Atari actually made more copies of pac-man than there were video game systems in existence. That's just nuts! I remember, man, maybe in 1990 or something, one of my local stores was getting rid of all its Atari systems. The system was like 20 bucks and games were 99 cents. I should have jumped on that and got em all. I never got the chance to play Yar's Revenge . But, man oh man, did ET suck - the first in a looooonng line of movie games that blew chunks (even up to present day).
I'm a youngin compared to you folks. 16, just trying to make enough money without having to show up to work and flip burgers like other kids my age. Maybe I'll get a great idea and retire after college.
