yes, I look for the link back on homepage and the link submission form to verify if the site is using phpld script. Sites which are using script after purchasing it are not required to link back and increase my work to find out before I approve their listing. any other suggestions for finding if the directory is using phpld script?
I submitted by genealogy directory. It's a niche directory but I submitted it under your general directory category because I wasn't sure where to put it.
Could you not request for the users nic on phplinkdirectory? Chances are some where along the line they got some coding/design help with the directory and will more then likely be listed in the Memberlist. I am pretty sure most webmasters would not have a problem disclosing this information since the only use of the information would be to validate the url in question. Another option might be to look at the page sourse. I have yet to download phplinkdirectory....coming very soon, but I am willing to be there are some special class selectors in the divs that are pretty consistent and unchanged from the original script. Perhaps all the comments have been removed but you might want to look at the class="xxx" within the divs and see if thy match up with the source code of phplinkdirectory. I know this can be a timely process but since we are only talking about "paid" members....I believe the amount of sites you will need to do this for will be minimal in your niche. In regards to the url not found, has happened to me a couple of times when attempting to submit a valid website into a directory, you could possibly do the following: You could add a small disclosure beneath the url box in your std small font: If you feel you received thus error by error then please feel free to contact us. Make your contact us a direct link to your contact us page. Hopefully some of that will help you until someone who has the experience with this particular script can offer a more viable option for determining the actual link script used. P.S.: Looked at the demo script and this looks pretty unique as far as classes are concerned: <ul class="catlinks"> and a bit of javaScript that i doubt has changed much: function count_link()
I would agree with another member who stated that if they have removed the link back to phpld that they don't deserve to be in your listing. Jere
I also submitted mine. If anyone else would like to submit their site to my directory you can go to www.linked2you.net and submit away. Jere
the problem is that if you paid the 75 dollars to be link free then they should not be punished for their contribution to the great scripting community. I believe I read an older post by regarding this same matter and that he was going to begin work on enforcing the required link for non paying users but do not know if plans on having that option implemented when the free version of 3.x comes available. The above was just a starting point based on the majority of the directories out there (hardly any of them change all their source code.....just customize around it) and thought it might be handy in determining if it is a phpld script...I am sure David could let you know if it is a paid one or not....
True TStewartFan, paying the price to David should not be reason to be left off of the list. But I would wonder what the 'right thing' would be as far as Davids telling if someone paid or not? Would I wnat anyone knowing that part of my business? It's a tough spot to be in. If I had paid to have the link removed and wanted to be on the list I would make sure that I notified the person compiling the list and also give David a heads up saying that his confirming this would be appreciated. Just my 2 cents worth. Jere
Approved links. David maintains a list of sites using PhpLD at http://www.phplinkdirectory.com/wiki/index.php?title=Sites_that_use_phpLD so I was thinking of verifying the sites with this list, but this list may not be complete so there should be a way to find out if the script is using PhpLD. I hope to find out something very soon
I'm not positive if this would work or not, but I believe the default admin login page says "phpLinkDirectory" on it (it does for version 3.0 anyway), and by default is accessible from directoryname.com/admin Not sure if that would *all* the time, but it's a quick and easy check. just add /admin to the site's url and see if the phpLinkDirectory login screen shows up. Just submitted manitobacentral.ca to your directory btw Good luck!
