Bland images might be better, like the samples Microsoft give you with their OS.
    Sunsets, trees and the like.

I think it's ok to use images next to ads as long as they don't promote the ad. I will continue using them

i think that trick really awesome..even i never tried it (actually i don't know how to do it):p

but as long as we don't put an image that give a same sign with the ads..this method will help advertiser get more click..who don't love image??:D

One real problem with most of the "images next to ads" solutions is that they are built around the 720x90 leaderboard format.

The 336x280 large rectangle significantly outperforms the 720x90 leaderboard, even if the rectangle doesn't have images and the leaderboard does. :)

I see so many pages that shoves the 336x280 at the very top of their page (article). I know it does well, because most users don't know those are ads, and assume they're THE article, and not PART of the article, because it's the first thing they see. Joel Comm recommends this "in your face" method. I personally don't use it, because I really don't like how it kills my site's layout, or my blogs. I would probably make more if I did it, of course, but I just can't justify doing it to myself, so... /shrug To each his own.

this was the reply i got when i asked about wheather i can place images near the ads. from my understanding misleading images are images related to your ads that appear so it is not a problem if you place general images like a baby girl, food items, etc

I'm all about a style and fashion related niche so design comes first than ads. I had nicely integrated pics + ads but removed them. This has cost me 30% of my AdSense money but that's alright. Good motivation to just get some more visitors and focus on marketing instead of building websites. :D

I wouldn't do anything that could possibly jepordise my AS account. It's worth too much to me.

Having said that, I've never used images next to ads, and I don't blend either. They fit into the theme of the page, but they are obviously ads. So, when somebody clicks on one they do so because they want to visit that site. I'm sure many people will disagree with me on this, but I want AS to be as profitable for the advertisers using it as possible, so they will continue to use it. I have a smallish niche without many advertisers, so I want to encourage the ones who are using Adwords to continue.

But then my AS has dropped by 1/3rd lately, so I'm no expert when it comes to AS.

I think Google will take a stricter policy because they want to avoid unintended clicks.

I took them off long ago because of SmartPricing.

When you remove them, your clicks go down, but not your revenue :)

I believe I only have a site where I still have that and I'm changing it this weekend.
TBH the results weren't that great so crime or not it doesn't pay.
I'd better go for strict TOS... :)

So, having images next to ads decreases the cost per click?
