Are you scared about running a web directory?

Just wondering what you directory owners expect to happen in the future. Would you say running a web directory is a little risky since the main benefit of submitting is due to SEO benefits.

I just have a feeling sooner rather then later, Google and the rest will come up with some revolutioary algorithm which wont focus on backlinks as much...if something like that happened, how would the directory market survive?

I guess not many of you are making your income soley by running a directory, but I'm sure you wouldnt want all your money and hard work ruined.

Are you prepared for such an event..or will you just go with the flow;)

Things change all the time and I am sure that most directory owners will adjust with the times. I can't see Google ever lessening the back links factor, they may lower the value of paid links but not back links as a whole.

I don't have one yet but am planning one and no it does not bother me. What are they going to do about yahoo and DMOZ? At best they'll find ways to devalue poor "made to sell links" directories or might even discount them. Quality directories will remain.

You might as well add article writing, blogging, forum posting to directories as lots of people do it purely for SEO too!

of course we are prepared... (or at least 1% of directory owners are) ... unique content is what is going to stay, and content ranks! we are seeing more and more directories turning into portals with blogs, forums and social bookmarking services... its a very interesting time for directory owners right now.

Every business relies on certain condidtions to survive.

Do you think car manufacturers are scared about petroel running out so nobody will buy cars?

I dont think google will be against any directory or backlinks in future too...

Also directories now-a-days are becoming a complete internet resource. :)

Well... gone are those old days when directory was for selling plan links. Look at Aviva Directory for example!

Its not just a Directory.. Its a Complete Resource! - Thats the reason its a Authority Site!

Today most of the directory owners are busy making their directories quality and working to provide quality resources with it, hence QBC will remain there and some will surely climb the level next!

    Sniff Sniff... im horrified :p

Well that statement is correct ;)
and it has already started in the new algo..

the web directory at this time is evolving and the common backlink will
only be worth about 3/4 of what it is soon enough...

Preparing to offer more to our customers more is always a good thing
wether its video drops, social bookmarks, articles submissions or any other
form of seo worthy component to take websites submitted to the top of the rankings... :D

The only ones that will unable to survive are the QBCs as they wont pay
any amount to upgrade thier systems which means change or die.

The web directory is about to become much more complex machine then it ever was
and surly not as simple as grab a script and go... and we are preparing with open arms

    thx

google will sure try to cut down the importance of backlinks from there algo by some weird maths! but it is not lilely that all directories will suffer!

in the last few days, i have seen a lot of directories getting authority status, if google really hates the directories perhaps they won't do that, i just have the feeling that google is not againest the directories all that!

honestly am not prepared for such an event! but then there will be some solutions:eek: i guess:rolleyes:
