    forums will give you knowledge as well traffic.

    people love it so chances are very high to get traffic.

    also it normally has a lot of users which will view your links etc.

    Secondly, yes it would be nice to pick up some great affiliates and even some customers.

    Thirdly, yes the backlinks are nice. It's like a bonus for being here.
