I have already bought 2 copies of Vista Home Premium and it is far better than XP. I have no probs with it and all my hardware and software works fine. In Australia it's around AU$400 for Home Premium and the OEM 64bit version is around AU$170. To save a few bucks I just bought a cheap AU$59 80GB hard drive with it so I could get the OEM version. Saved me over $300!

I also use Ubuntu and I don't think it's a pain to install (and update) programs. In fact, think it is much easier that with Windows.

How did you install programs? Do you know apt/Synaptic and how to enable additional repositories?

I'll be sticking with XP for now.....waiting for the dust to settle on Vista not that I'd expect there to be too many real problems but you never know.

Happy with XP.. plus you can't develop with Visual Studio 2003 under Vista and I have a lot of legacy apps I'm not going to upgrade just for the sake of it. Microsofts answer was to use a Virtual Machine running XP to develop.... Hmmmm

I plan on getting Vista at some point, just not right now. The last thing I want is to get it, and for it to not be compatible with any of my hardware.

Vista? No thanks. That means spending money on hardware I don't currently need.
