Are you getting cheated from your recip links?

Just wondering what everyone elses experience is.
With my directory, you can either pay $1 or give me a recip link to be included. $1 isn't much but it keeps most of the real junk from submitting.

I always check the recip link to see if it is good. I've noticed that most sites that give you a recip link do not link to thier recip link pages anywhere on there site. So the page will never get indexed. :(

At any rate this is how I check to see if a page has been indexed. You guys have a better method?

allinurl:dlinks site:http: //acnemonster.info (remove the spaces after http)

of course the guy trying to cheat me is acnemonster

This is the pages he put the directories on.
    acnemonster.info/dlinks.php?page=2

Reciprocal are have less or no SEO value.
So you can remove that option.

?? I noticed search buster (one of the directories in your sig) has a recip link option.

I think the valuse of recip links is still being debated :)

Seems though the use of that option has a tendancy to bring out the bottom dwellers. I get 10-15 non-indexed pages as a recip for each indexed page that I get. Not sure it's worth the effort of looking anymore.

Seems it's not uncommon for someone to place a reciprocated link on an orphaned page as of late. I was looking through another directory that offered reciprocal listings and found some of the reciprocated links on orphaned pages; usually named partner links or such. On one site it was linked to from a single page which had noindex, nofollow meta tag.

It's not a bad idea to check the source code; you might find noindex, nofollow robots tag on the page with your reciprocal link or on the page linking to it.

We allow recips on Voisd and Unleashed - however so saying we will be removing this feature on Voisd very soon. We also only allow recip when the return link is PR3+ (on Voisd) or PR1+ on Unleashed.

Option deleted at eWebPages - just not worth it... I'd rather spend time doing something more constructive with the directory than validating and mantaining reciprocated links.

Which gets you passed my initial problem , however, if the page has no follow in the link, head portion, or the robots.txt file as CReed mentioned or the page is supplimental then you still get no benefit. :(

I have been cheated and am being cheated everyday with reciprocals.

People reciprocate from link farms and useless pages.

I have removed the option totally from the dirs I own. But it is hurting real webmasters who really wants to have reciprocal links.

    Hello...

    Reciprocal links hahaahahaah

ohhh shit i just got up off the floor from this thread...hhahahahah

yea babe let me get that free ride and pay less then others for a link ill just delete a few weeks later..
or better yet let me create a page that doesnt exist and add your link so i can get in at a dirt cheap price
while the other suckers pay and i get off ....hheheheeheh

unfortunitly thats what goes threw most of your reciprocals peoples minds..

I will be making small banners for all sites and if they wish to support us then i will do something for them in return
but im not given any price breaks as that invites every scammer and ripoff to pull there stunts and an insult to
    those submitters that are true...

    thats my take anyway...

    thx

I agree but i am going to be doing the same very soon as well - after all you dont see alive or aviva using this method. I think recips are good for young directories but i think in the long term they aren't such a good idea as it takes time to check the return links are still active.

I'm just starting out with SEO and pagerank, Design/Development is my Strong point, even though I have two PR4 and one PR3. For reciprocals, i'm going to keep a spreadsheet on google spreadsheets and check back every 2 weeks ;)

Your sites are nice source of Backlinks especially they are priced at an extreme affordable rates. I remembered that I have quite a few in your stocks and I fully recommend your pricing also that you are not one of those who deletes the links accidently after some time.

Could you please show me again the sites you have that my links are on ? Also let me know in this thread what you have as new ones.

    Thanks

There are just so many ways for someone to cheat on reciprocal links, it seems too time-consuming to check. Unless you want to spider each reciprocal site every month or so to ensure the link is still there and search-engine readable, you're going to end up losing out.

You're either getting a deleted link down the road or getting a link back to you on a page with a thousand other links.

It is beneficial however in your directories category, especially if you're a free directory as you'll receive traffic as well.

Yes, I have noticed that too. Occasionaly, I also "de-orphan" them by linking to them from another domain so that they do get indexed.

I use the crond to check reciprocal links, doesn't take any time at all. It's only time consuming if you approach it the wrong way, like most things. :D

well then its agreed that its pointless to have....

So Now where do we go from here??

its a shame to punish those who look for a bargain and have no problems
with leaving your link on thier page.... so what can we do for them?

    thx
