Are you finding that search results have more than doubled in certain keyword search?

I've been watching several keywords that as of up to a few days ago seemed to have less than a million competing sites for it. Then I searched today to find 12 million search results or 5 million for terms that were no more than a million in some cases and 2 in another? Is this a common case? Has anyone noticed this, or is it just happen to be that the keywords just became very popular? If its a change in Google's search algos, what does it mean for us?

In reality, google only yields 1000 results. The "Results" number only indicates how many pages they have indexed with the keyphrase searched for. But yes, more and more pages are being indexed all the time. I really feel sorry for those that know nothing about seo. It's getting harder than ever to be found in the endless sea of web pages.
