Hi Guys, Just starting work on a new SEO project and just trying to start my keyword research after reading an interesting case study from wordtracker I have read a few posts relating to good keyword suggestion tools and so far Overture and Wordtracker appear to be the most talked about ones. I was going to sign up to wordtracker as it appeared to show some interesting results that I would like to know across all the search engines instead of just MSN. However a lot of people say that Wordtracker is flawed and although it says there may be 100 searches this may only convert to 25 visitors because of certain inaccuracies. Does anybody have any opinions on this or perhaps experience or feedback regarding the tool and also any keyword suggestion tool alternatives that may have emerged recently.
I've never used wordtracker, but once you get the hang of overture and know how to interpret the numbers it shows you can get a very good idea of how much traffic a keyword would end up getting.
I used Digital Point SE tools.. The keyword tool there gives both the result of wordtracker and overture
Ah ok, I think I will just use the keyword suggestion thingy here then...would be pointless to pay for it if it's offered free here. Thanks for input so far guys.
The keyword selection tool on this site is better as I can limit the results to simply United Kingdom if need be. However I still think that it is missing the ability to tell you which keywords out of those that have been returned are most heavily contested as wordtracker does...read more about KEI (Keyword Effectiveness Index). Do you think this type of thing is worthwhile requesting or would it place added stress on this already popular (and free ) tool?
This free 150+ page report just came out today. Does case study on top 21 keyword research tool. You can get a copy here - www.keywordworkshop.com . Was put together by Allan Gardyne of www.AssociatePrograms.com and Jay Stockwell.
I think we can do without this kind of blatant product promotion SPAM on this board. Personally, I am more than a bit fed up with all these self-styled Internet Gurus and Get-Rich-Quick Schemers. Let them pay for their advertising.
And I'm a bit fed up when would-be webmasters think they know (or who) they're talking to. Let me ask you this...did you even happen to open it up and take a look at this massive report, that is free? I will not assume (as you with I) that you've taken the time to read the .PDF, as if you did, you notice the abundance of information thats provided. This forum, as with the general theory with all forums, is to share information. This happens to be a good report by someone I respect. And if you know me, which you undoubtly don't, you know I don't tout other's pet projects, parading around the Internet. Please...SPAM. Take your 23 posts and move elsewhere if you're going to type before researching. There's enough keyboard cowboy jockey's out scouring the plains of forums doing that.
I too have noticed that the Word Tracker results are heavily inflated, but over time I've learned how to take those results and convert them into realistic numbers. I'm thinking that the paid version might give the user a more "accurate" representation, as more search engines can be compared in relation to each other, instead of just MSN? Although, I dont think it can gather statistics from Google as it claims to.
from what i know overture takes its data from its network where displays ads: yahoo, msn, altavista... and besides this combines singular and plural, so the results is many times higher than wordtracker. i think this data are more informative than accurate and don't expect the number of visitors this tools shows you. i also use the free tools from DP and i just found a keyword that was searched 3500 times/day (wordtraker) and 145 times/day (overture) and i don't find the explanation why this big difference, but i'll give it a try
Here is your answer bro, it is actually written on the http://www.digitalpoint.com/tools/suggestion/ page. Why do they differ so greatly? Overture's data is based on more searches, so the values are going to be higher than Wordtracker's in most cases. This does not mean Wordtracker's data is less valuable (keep in mind that they are relative to each other). Also, Wordtracker differentiates between plural and singular forms (which Overture does not). Voasi thanks for a great article, that is pretty much what I was looking for...to be honest when I first went to that page I too thought it may be spam but after putting in my email address I could download an article and so far I have found it to be very informative...thanks again
i wrote: yes bhutz, but this time the data from wordtracker is 20 times higher than from overture. if "overture's data is based on more searches" and puts toghether singular and plural how that it returns me 145 searches/day and wordtraker, 3500 searches/day, more than 20 times higher
bhutz- One tool that I use that I kinda like is Nichebot (nichebot.com). It has the WordTracker results but also shows how many pages and sites are out there indexed for a term. They take the number of sites/number searches to come up with a competive ratio which I find helpful (the lower the better). Hope this helps.
