I was curious how these link cloud sites were able to get PR? Are people just buying expired domains with page rank and slapping their link farm on the site? Oh I forgot now we're calling it "word cloud site". That doesn't have near as much of a negative connotation as "link farm".
well, I will be promoting my keyword directory though. Your point is not really valid. You can not simply know when the site owner quits promoting at all. So, whenever you buy a link, there is always a risk whether blog link or site-wide link. Its all about how authoritive a site is and how much you can trust the owner.
I have a word cloud site. I have had some people pay. But I see no difference in these type of sites as opposed to those who use the million dollar pixel or link dumps vs. Directories. I also run a PHPLd and it appears many owners want an inexpensive way to have their sites ranked, backlinked and or seen. This I can understand. Especially if you have many sites to get ranked, backlinked, seen or advertised, that it can be very expensive. As far as the Word Cloud looking a wee bit spammy. Yes and a No. I do have to agree that each site has its own word or maybe a keyword. But yes many of the site were/are not relevent to each other. Unless there are preset words that are relevant to oh lets say... Business, Finance, Photography, Automotive the list goes on.....
mine has a directory structure for each theme... http://www.word-tagcloud-dir.info If a word cloud is built like that, I think there is a better backlink value. I'm going to add something to it later on also
It would make absolutely no sense to continue promoting a word cloud site from a Return on Investment perspective. Let me explain. Say you have 100 links for sale at $2-3 a piece. You have to do the initial promoting and you have the cost of the domain name...those costs will cut into your profits. Once all spots are sold, the owner of the word cloud site has no reason to promote the site any further...as he/she would eventually use up all of the profit made from it. Therefore, simple word cloud sites are useless and a waste of money unless you are able to connect them to a larger site.
Well, most word cloud sites are bad... That's why I created mine for a change. I may change the max links probably, but currently most of mine are only 50 links on a single page. Some of them I only allow 30 links on a page. Is your assumption accurate? I have a plan to add a twist to my word cloud directory. But I rather want to wait till it gets PR5 (predicted). In general, if a word cloud site is NOT promoted, is then not a good one. Those purchased domains turned to be word cloud sites at link sale forum are probably useless, and most of them probably are not promoting currently or no plan to promote at all.
Well if all spots are sold on a word cloud page...it would be unethical to increase the number of available link spots. Therefore, there is a limit to the amount of money to be made from that particular word cloud page. If I already made the most I could possibly make from the site...every additional expense would cut directly into it. So yes, my assumption is accurate because there would be no reason to waste anymore time and/or money on the site. In your case, I don't understand the point of having a word cloud directory. Is that the same thing as a regular directory but with only anchor text? Sure it's more relevant, but don't directories do the same already? But since you're adding a twist, maybe it will be different. Otherwise, I don't really see how it differs from any other directory being solicited here on DP.
Many word cloud sites are using expired domain names which have high PR. But most of them will drop to PR0 after next PR update. So buying links from them is wasting money and time .
don't you check all the "basic stuff" first before you buy whether it's word could link, blog link, director or any other??? The bad trend currently going on at the link sale forum is a big turn-off. I was aware of that when I created it. Some folks still don't see the true value. It's a matter of time though. The trend dies soon.
I've been seeing many word cloud sites coming out recently and flourishing. Can buying links on there help with backlinks? I mean with a PR of course. I heard that these link farms arent always that good.
I havent spent more thatn 50 cents on buying links on word clouds as of yet but mostly i have been submitting to free ones only. Thanks for response!
A page with a bunch of outgoing links? Nahhh, not worth it. Myself and some other guys on here bought some pixels on a number of large pixel websites during that boom. I cant say it had much effect on SERPs/PR etc. I did get quite a few direct clicks though.
Absolutely, its better to get incoming links from relevant (theme) sites or relevant categories from established directories(paid ones are much better).
From what perspective? These sites are up one week and for sale the next. One guy was selling his word cloud site and recommending the the buyer double the amount of available links to squeeze more profit out of it. Can you imagine having to split the PR4 from that expired domain 1000 ways? Give me .50 and i'll make a page for you along with 1,000 other links.
If i buy a pagerank 6 wordcloud word and submit my site to a few directories.. do you think i could get a pagerank 4 at the least?
NO! You are buying a worthless link from an expired domain that probably already lost whatever PR it had. On top of that, you're sharing that PR6 with 250-500 other people. That site will be on sale right here on DP in 2-3 weeks and then you will probably have to share that PR6 link with 1,000 people once the new owner realizes that the site has no way of bringing in profits.
