Are wikis more effective than directories?

And if so why dont we create wiktories?

Wikis that are just full of links?

Any user can edit the contents of Wiki. Wiki's contents are generally contributed by users and it automatically links to relavent conttents. Spammers find this most easier to get links and load their stuffs.

    it's hard to moderate. :)

@ fatinfo guy: Thanks for quoting our website as example :)

Comment: not really so true. Pmwiki can be protected in several ways, even with a list of users (acting like a CMS), even Group's PWS protection or just a specific page/s PWS protection.

http://www.regnum-irae.net/public/riwiki_en/pmwiki.php uses User access protection, both for members reserved pages and for STAFF Editors password, Admin password (to check every log action) and external groups' pages protection.

The fact I joined this forum is because my curiosity. Our REFERRED system control identified visitors from here, the IP location of each user and how many and which pages have been visited by them.

Pmwiki do this using cookbook Modules (PHP) and website has other 3° party control utilities.

Even in case the site gets spam, it immediately advice admins for proper actions. It is always possible to reverse any Edit action "in just 1 click" because every mod is stored in a timelined backup.

Of course protections (or not) depend from the Webmaster.
