My WP blog shows a link from wikipedia and I was wondering are they follow links? Also are they decent? Do they help you out? There is no anchor text just a link in the reference to an article
The links are nofollow but many places syndicate the links which will get you some backlinks. Most of the syndicated backlinks you will get will be PR0 as well. I have a few links from wikipedia that have been syndicated and have given me numerous PR2 links though.
I've said this before, but I wonder if they really are worthless. I say this because a link from wikipedia should be a high trust link. Search engines would, therefore, get better results by looking at wikipedia links--especially old links.
They will send you targeted traffic if you are lucky to get your link onto a Wiki page and not have it moderated out - it works for me.
some of the syndicated that I have gotten are actually do follow but they are on auto generated PR0 pages so not worth it. But on my niches I have not been moderated out on high traffic pages and get 10-30 visitors a day through those.
A wikipedia link will bring you a lot of traffic in some cases... But no help with the search engines. Thats my experience.
Wikipedia links are still good because the articles get copied as it is by many blogger and websites (including about.com) and at that time you get a dofollow link. But links in wikipedia itself don't carry any weight for SEO purpose.
They won't increase the PR as i know but i am sure that you will have better position in Google eyes in trust factor if you have some wikipedia links. Remember content should match on both the sites which is the basic thing for Google to trust a site.
There is a tool u can buy. It allows your link become dofollow, but if wikipedia finds out thew make it nofollow. I forgot the name of it and i am on my cell phone.
they aren't worthless for me. You wont get PR benefits but the traffic benefit can be awesome. I have many wikipedia back links and receive a lot of traffic from there. You just have to know how to play it so they dont delete your link.
