Does Google have any objection to a person's website belonging to a web ring? I read something about that elsewhere but don't remember all that was said. Are web rings generally a good thing as far as promoting traffic to your site or not? I hope I've posted this in the proper forum. If not, I hope the moderator will move it to the appropriate place. Thanks, Ozzie
Here's the link to a site I joined. http://dir.webring.com/rw Google's geocities has some web rings too. I think the purpose is to group sites of similar interest together and provide more traffic.....not sure. I hope someone who knows about these can give us some information.
IMO, google allows webring. the disadvantage is that it ruins the design and professionalism of a site as you need to insert a code on your page.
I'm part of a 3D graphics webring, but it hasn't sent my any traffic, so i'll probably just delete the code...and anyway, better to be safe than sorry!
Webrings aren't illegal and won't get you into trouble - but they did go out of style three years ago. They do link your site to websites that you have absolutely no control over, so it may get your site into a 'bad neighborhood'.
Thank you for the replies. I have the webring on my personal site so it can't mess that up too badly. It hasn't been doing me any good so I may get rid of it soon.
