Are web directories important for new sites?

I often hear people say "Submit to web directories for your new site"

Is that true? By submitting to web directories, how fast and how much traffic a new site can get in 1 month?

 

submitting to directories is not for traffic.Its done for baclinks, which can increase your Page Rank and Search Engine Ranking.

 

approval from owner to include in web directory it self must wait for certain time (1 day to 3 month), this just 1 from several ways. And then it will depend on how frequent that web directory crawled by SE.

But it can be really time consuming, do you guys use any auto submit software?

 

you can submit using software or you can do it yourself.

If you submit to one or two directories daily then it will be good. You must build your backlinks slowly, otherwise you may be penalized by google.

 

It is not time consuming, for me at least. I submit to at least 10 per day.
