    Are we?
On which particular product are you talking about or Microsoft as a company it self?
If I'm not wrong you must be talking about Microsoft's own OS. XP/Vista. We are not Dependant on it, If the product is good works well ease of use every one gonna buy it.
For the question can you be like M? Ans is without knowing who you are its hard to tell in short "NO"

You are having many other options but the thing is that we are so much 'use to' with the MSFT that can't visualize what other great things are also in world of IT such as Linux.

It's not that we really DEPEND in Microsoft. It's still our choice. There are also other options out there. But personally, is still prefer Microsoft because of its compatibility with other programs and i find it more user-friendly compared to others. :)

I find Windows OSes more compatible (Vista isn't that bad either) and user friendly than Mac and Linux.

I think most of us are now stuck to Microsoft. Why do most people pay for Microsoft Office when Open Office is free.

We would rather pay for Microsoft products rather then downloading free open source software

Open Office is free and Microsoft office 2007 is about 500$ +, some people choose money over interface.
you are bit different to choose interface to money ;)

Linux was made for advanced users, even though its security is better than Windows in about every way. You'll have to deal with standards. It well is a choice to depend on Microsoft.

well, Microsoft makes good products, and they're more user friendly than Apple or Linux. Linux might be for advanced users and power major corporation, but it just won't serve the needs of the common user. Windows is also pre-installed on more computers than Mac and Linux or at least in the US.

One thing is using Microsoft OS because it is user friendly and most applications and programs are developed with MS in mind and another totally different is that you follow the crowd.

XP is well known by its inestability, security holes and spyware and people just simply take it.... Lots of horror stories has been told after the launching of Vista and once again here people go following the crowd.

I know at least a hundred people who still use Window 3.1., 95, 98, ME and 2000 refusing to take what Microsoft tries to impose because a large number of programs developed for XP run under such platforms.

In fact I know a dozen of "purists" that went beyond and still us MS-Dos as this system is still up as additional facility in large corporates, specially when it comes to backups

If XP or Vista come pre-installed, there is always a way to reformat your HD and get rid of them

Most people use Microsoft because it's the easiest route with buying a new PC.

People have been using it, so they are use to it. Linux is more user friendly to me... but I'm very open-minded, logical and adaptable (People who are unlike me will say Linux is for advanced users / geeks). It's like Spanish vs. English. For American, English is easy and Spanish is hard. For Mexicans (and others alike) Spanish is easy and English is hard... it's all about how you grew up.

Next, People say Linux can't run many programs. To get the facts, Linux understands over 300 executable languages, while Windows understands 1 (ONE)... the EXE. So Linux would be perfect if it could just understand .EXE, but guess who owns the rights to EXE? (If you guessed Microsoft give yourself a cookie!)
Do other operating systems need EXE? No... you just compile it in to another file type and it will be 100% compatible with Linux, Mac, Unix... Is this hard? No. It just means doing once for Windows and once for all other Operating Systems, But most companies lack the will to do it twice.
It's like the cigerate companies and phone companies... you have to trap the user into staying with your product.

Lastly, Ignorant Masses... Most people just follow. Microsoft advertises, people follow. Wal-mart says they have lowest price, people buy. ... a ton of examples... One person or group says something and the mass of people just follow without question.

Well Microsoft products are user friendly...that is why i like Microsoft products. Well there are lot of alternatives...I AGREE.. BUT...they are not even close to what Microsoft offers (esp in terms of user friendliness, learn ability, adaptability etc).

So what ever it is....i'll stick to microsoft just like i stick to Google for all web applications.

Wait, this is a big problem! Are you going to stick with Microsoft Office Word or are you going to stick with Google Documents?

Personally I would go with Google Documents, it has a lot more formats... unlike Microsoft Word which requires you to use ... Microsoft Word.

I'd like to exercise my right to be a Microsoft Office user. Since when was Office $500 anyway? First of all, I got my copy as a gift and it's 2003. Second, it's not $500. I've saw Home/Student/Office versions for under $200. Third, it's my right to use whichever software I wish. Don't criticize the fact that I don't want to settle for less.

I'm not the only one in the world using Microsoft Office.

exactly which format are you talking about? You mean document format?

Well the Google document is cool, i use it pretty often. But i prefer a desktop application for word processing (when I'm not in the move).

I have used open office before........and certainly Microsoft Word worked better in several occasion.
