I didn't contradict anything at all. You just apparently misread the post. "If it got to the point" would be key... and it's not just speculation; it's business common sense.
yes, it's common sense that content gets paid for one way or the other, but paid content is not happening. you made a false statement: "people would move to providing paid content", but they are NOT doing that... it's already been tried, it failed, and you gave us an example of it failing! that's a contradiction if i ever saw one, lol
You obviously still don't get the point. The only reason people moved away from it, was because they could still monetize the services and content through advertising. If (and I did say if in each case) we get to the point where the majority of users are using tools like these ad blockers, and removing most of the ads supporting the free services and content, then yes, people with even an ounce of business sense are going to find another way to monetize what they're offering (which means paid content, membership fees, etc. unless new monetization methods become available)... or they'll just stop offering what they have been altogether. Again, just basic business, and a little bit of common sense.
you can't even comprehend what you post... telling us that a firefox ad blocker might put an end to 'net advertising, and cause paid content to come back, is absurd. fyi, ad blockers came out years before paid content went away and with firefox on a downward spiral, there is no reason to think that the current landscape is going to change anytime soon.
That's not what I said. I said if ad blocking became the norm... that doesn't only constitute one tool. The question isn't a matter of changes happening just because they exist, making it a moot point that they existed before prior changes. As I've repeatedly said, and what you apparently can't comprehend is that it's a very possible change if and when these tools become the norm. I never said it would happen overnight or "soon" in any way. So please... don't go around putting words in my mouth.
The people that click the ads, are usually average joes, and in most cases web-ignorant. So, they won't know what or how to install this plugin. They won't even know it exists. I don'tthink its that big of a deal. Plus, google would do something about it, because less clicks, means less money for them and they are one of the main suppliers of firefox on the web. Go figure it out yourself but I don't think its that big of a deal.
I agree, there is no way they can modify our pages, but they sure are able to modify how the pages look. Meti
LOL, and if I view your site using Lynx? I've "modified" the experience, but I haven't done anything to your site. The site doesn't get rendered until it's read by my browser which is AFTER the code is downloaded from your site.
Actually, Firefox does make money on the Google search function, along with the customized Google search page that is the default Firefox homepage. That's Mozilla's main source of revenue, earning them $50+ million last year.
This is why I'm creating a CPA ad generator that makes unblockable popups.. unless they plan on banning flash off the internet period.. these are unstopable.. I'd an example live on www.gangsters.cc of one generated in action (Free iphone) Go ahead and test with firefox..post results.. The system will allow users to upload thier image, size it, position on the page, Even add fade ins , slide ins etc, add text and links, set cookie length / time for the pops (my beta is set to 6 hours) and generate the .swf along with the small javascript code required in the <head> </head> tags to make it work. I've already got a beta nearly done. I'm looking to either sell the software as a whole when complete or allows subscription service. Does anyone have any feedback on such a system and would they use it?
I usually surf with a browser that does not have a flash plug-in. So, yes, some people do, even if only temporarily, ban flash.
I would certainly consider that yea, we are being robbed. however, firefox is a great program and not displaying ads won't stop me from using it!
Are the people who are using adblock really the type of people who would be likely to click on ads in the first place?
if some people don't want to see ads then leave them and allow to die the blogging, article, news etc....
