I represent a non-profit organization which is having a new Web site developed. The company developing our site has been at it for over a year. I should say that unresponsive committee members from our organization can be blamed for some of this long delay, but the developers are at fault for much. I would also like to make clear, that I believe this site should be pretty static, but the developers chose to implement it using Mambo. Now we are told they want to switch to Joomla which will incur a further delay in getting our site finished and cost quite a bit more money to make the conversion between the two CMSs. Are we being ripped off?
yes Setting up a CMS like mambo, phpnuke, joomla wont take more than a couple of hours. (a bit more if you dare to ftp it on the server with a dialup connection) Adding content is directly proportional to your typing speed
Not sure of some of the variables in the project, but I wouldn't think it should take that long to build up a website using an existing CMS. I would ask them more reasoning for the delays and the change in the CMS engine. Good luck.
Indeed ! Did you/they put a timeframe in the design contract ? More than 1 year to develop a Joomla site ????
I'm in total agreement, but one other factor is if you need a custom template for the CMS, that will take some more time- but nothing like a year lol.
Yes, You are being ripped off. It took 1 year for your website designer to learn joomla lol. If you don't have a contract get someone else. If you do have a contract threaten to sue them for sexual harrassment LOL. Some people just suck, and make the rest of us look bad. Mike
I had a CMS built from ground up in less than a month. Complete custom job. A year is outrageous. But, I've been doing a redesign with a yet-to-be-named designer for about 8 months now, so I feel your pain
We can implement an ERP project within one year.We can install Mambo within one hour Without doubt you are being ripped off.
As long as you have a non-profit organization, let me know. I will gladley help you out with installation and setup for free!
smcilree yes you are being ripped off , downloading/installing Mambo shouldnt take More than 1 day (Exagerated time) Coding a template shouldnt take more than 1 week (Also exagerated) Then All what you have to do is add contents .... Changing from Mambo to Joomla can be done easly , Originaly there wasnt something called Joomla , but The Mambo team had problem and now there is Mambo and Joomla so the core code should be the same ... a Script has been released to Make the Migration , you can check it here : http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,9238.0.html
1 yr is a rip off, thats for sure. but please, Joomla doesnt take just some hours to be finalised. Also Mambot to Joomla migration can be very tricky, specially if ur have non compliant components. I dont know the depth of ur website but more than a month delay is not excepted. On the other side usually u get what u pay for.
If the developers have decided that they want another CMS, Why should it cost you more money? The year long delay is understandable if your company has been unresponsive.
I agree 110% I was thinking the same thing.. if THEY wanted the new system why would you pay for it? I hope you get it all sorted out soon
Get rid of them! It shouldn't take a whole year to do that. The work you described should take a month tops, less than that if it's just a few simple static pages.
