I have a warez forum which is hosted in hong kong. Its legal because members only place links to files hosted on other servers (i.e. Rapidshare). It would be ilegal if those files where on my server.

Some of you would say that having a warez site is illegal but thats because you take the view that US law is world law which is crap.
US law ends on US territory. If the law, in Hong Kong for example, says that there is no crinminal offense in sharing warez, and you have a warez site hosted there, then that means its legal no matter what the US seem to think. Therefore you cant be arrested and your not breaking the law. Period.

Warez-BB is hosted in Hong Kong on a dedicated server with www.hostfresh.com.

That is completely unrelated. The warez answer could be varied so much. It is legal in most countries actually to make a warez forum, but in some countries it is illegal.

I would be the least worried about warez coming here. Firstly the laws and enforcement are strict, Secondly Australia's bandwidth will bankrupt any warez companies and thirdly connection from Australia to the world aren't that fantastic.

Technically if you host it in a country with no warez laws then you will be fine. I would personally not do it, as its against my morals.

Wasn't so much concerned over hosting warez here I guess its slightly OT but it just peeves me off how our government kowtows to America's wishes, although hopefully Rudd should bring an end to that.

I agree that is too much, it is not a relationship among equals, more of a headmaster and student relationship. Rudd had a lot to do to overcome this. Main issue is previous administrations had deferred too much to the wishes of the Americans that they took it for granted......

Why would you want to start another warez forum anyway?

And I seriously doubt that you can find a datacenter in Greenland. Though I think datacenters cooling won't be a problem there :)

Host in Russia, China and I think perhaps even Norway and you should be fine. I think you can use Turkey, there are other places but I'm not sure.

If I really wanted to, I would host it in Sweden. But I was just asking, if the server was in the US, would I get into legal trouble.

My advice is to stay clear all together. If something has been cracked etc then there could be all sorts of problems such as the crackers gaining access to your PC.

    Now, you wouldn't want that !! :) :)
