Are Users Becoming "Adsense Blind"

Discussion in 'AdSense' started by kidder, Jan 31, 2007.

Of late I've noticed a fair decline in my adsense CTR on a couple of my sites to the point that I have taken it down completely off one site.

I was wondering if the "banner blindness" is turning into "adsense blindness"
It may just be industry specific I am not %100 sure yet. I guess people soon become educated as to what keeps them on a site and what takes them away.

Yes, if users see the same ads all the time they'll eventually become blind to them. Even AdSense recommends color rotation to combat this.

there might be some attacks on your adsense account. there are lots in the market who becomes blind to make others lame from adsense lol! i hope this wouldn't happen with you. But after dropping the ads, did you CTR come back to 0% ? or it is still high?

I think that is the point - People see the blocks every where and just learn to spot them and ignore them - Although I do notice the ones at the top of the page here... They jump right out. Oooops am I even allowed to draw attention to them in a thread? That might casue them to get clicked...

At this stage I might even move away from the blend thing and try some real ugly ones :)

Well he mentioned the ads...lol.... ..and the number one problem with most is they do not blend there ads as you know.

So traffic ..is a great idea ..However, that is a bit harder than to fine tune and working with what you have NOW... and grow in time the right way. I would try a more modest aproach and really work on placement ....and EVEN less ads.

Problogger had a great point about placing them in the right spots vs over doing it in genral.

    Good Luck

Personally speaking, my CTR and eCPM has steadily increased over the past couple of years. In part I think this is because my AdSense ads have gotten more relevant and have become better targeted. In general I don't think people are necessarily AdSense blind, its just that they have become less likely to click on ads that aren't highly relevant to what they are interested in. Of course I'm sure there are some niches were people have become more blind to AdSense ads (e.g. Webmaster related topics).

    Kidder,

I don't think adsense blindness is your problem. I think it's something else with your website. Maybe a low number of visitors, maybe irrelevant ads, maybe the ads colors. I suggest you go and read the basics again, maybe there's something that you're not paying attention to.

Although people see the ads everywhere, they still are likely to click on them if the ads are interesting and what they are looking for.

We know that we earn money from these ads, but there are alot of people that when they click on them, it doesn't really come into their heads that they have earn't us money.
