Are Tutorial Blogs a good idea?

    Hello,

I am very fluent with the program AutoCAD and I am thinking of making a tutorial blog. I was just curious if a good monthly revenue can be made from blogs and how much up-keep they require..I know that it all depends on the content, but if I have enough good content, what kinda revenue could be made and how much up-keep would it take?

    Thanks guys in advance

I imagine you could make some handsome money with an AutoCAD tutorial website. I know that there aren't many out there and that AutoCAD is one of the harder and more professional programs people use. I would say go for it. If you can pump out the tutorials yourself then awesome but if you an outsource some of it and fix it up that would probably be faster.

Let us know how it goes and what your decision ends up being.

I think you've got a very good idea.

If possible, I would suggest writing your tutorial as a bunch of posts...each covering a different topic or subtopic. Publish a post every other day or every three days. That will keep new content coming which google loves. Make sure your post titles are very specific so your readers can easily find info on a topic.

I'd monetize with adsense and autoCAD books from Amazon.

Do you guys thing that making my own tutorials would benifit me the most or do you think I could also run a blog by mostly having links to other sites, while also having a few of my own tutorials?

I only ask this because I am a student and on some nights time is a factor.

dfourss, thanks for the advice because i was going to ask what the best way of earning money with a blog.

    thanks again

First off let me clarify what I meant by outsourcing and fixing it up. Basically if you can find some good writers with plenty of knowledge on AutoCAD you may be able to pay them to write your articles for you. A lot of offshore work can be found for very cheap. If you are able to get a writer you could then review their work before posting it on your website. What I mean by that is making sure there are no spelling mistakes, grammatical errors, etc.

Having said that I think outsourcing is something you should try once you're earning some money. I personally don't want to start with $0 and start going in the negative. I'm more defensive in that I'll wait to make money and then put that back into the website.

You should start off writing your own articles. Start off easy, get video's (use camtasia), or picture. All of those will aid the user. Instead of linking to other tutorial sites try to get those other sites to link to you as well. This way traffic flows both ways. Incorporate your tutorials as well as other tutorials (stay legit, link back, give credit where credit is due).

its a great idea.. make your own tutorials (video or written) and if at times you are not in the mood of making one yourself, you could always point to other site's tuts. though your very own unique tuts would be advisable..

for revenue, you could have adsense(like most bloggers) and maybe some affiliates from autocad sellers and some other related softwares.

Video tutorials would be more useful. Also you can offer some free video tutorials first and then later when you'll get significant number of visitors then you can make some advanced videos and sell them on your blog, or even better if you make a membership site and add it to your blog where you'll add advanced level videos on a monthly basis.

Thanks for all the help guys, I started writing tutorials last night and I am hoping to open up my blog by the end of the week if I have enough content to add.

I will probably stick to written ads with lots of pictures, and move into video tutorials as my site progresses.

I appreciate all the support and help

    Thanks again

very good niche, but what kind of audience are you targeting? I'm guessing autocad is used in industry right? so you will be targeting employees who use this software/system, and in the working day which is when people use it people wont necessary be searching on how to use the system and managers wont be too happy about people taking that time researching on how to use the system.
And i'm guessing many managers will train people up before they start using autocad, which reduces the need to look up tutorials later on.

Also people learning to use autocad (employees) might not click links to software packages (with affiliate links) as its no use to them, they would have already got autocad in the work place, but maybe links to relevant books from amazon, ebay etc would be your best source of revenue

Again i don't know AutoCAD, so i'm probs wrong, the only way you will find out if its a good monthly reveneu source is to just do it.

Its a good niche and revenue depends how much uniques u r getting, and avg ppc is good. Auto CAD niche also have less competition.

yOu can also add other program tutorials which relates to auto cad.

Remembers, content is king people will visit ur website if u have content rich blog. So post on daily base if not possible then add new content on weekly base.

Hey there, just wanted to say congrats on your site... but here's my 2 cents:

1.) Start from the basics. Tutorial sites are awesome, and have great profitting potential... however many of these sites fail because they are too unorganized and confusing. Not to be too harsh, your first post seemed a bit out of nowhere. I would suggest starting your first couple of blogs as to the very essential of AutoCAD, so everyone that is initially finding your blog will be understanding, and on the same level. Once you have developed the basics into your postings, I'd move into more challenging aspects of AutoCAD. However, always remember to revisit the basics every now and then... just to keep any potential new readers from not being too intimidated.

2.) Develop a new template. I know... you just made your site, but just wanted an FYI :) As well, I think your site would EXPLODE if you created some online video tutorials (youtube them, if you want) and create a section of your site titled as 'video tutorials'. This will be a great adsense earner as well :)

So, there's a lot of potential, but just stick with it and keep on creating new ideas for your site.
