Are Traffic Exchanges Useless Traffic?

Firstly – what is a traffic exchange? If you are not familiar with them, they are a free way to earn traffic. It works on a credit system where you view member’s sites, and earn credits for each website you visit. You can then use those credits to send visitors to your sites.

So – basically people are surfing with the sole aim to earn credits with which to promote their own sites. It doesn’t sound like idea traffic, does it? They aren’t going to be reading, buying and signing up to your site are they?

    Well – not totally true!

To be effective in a traffic exchange you need to think about the possible restraints that you may have and then work around them. The major problem, people not being willing to stop and read a 10 page sales letter? Easy fixed.

OK, so it’s probably obvious, but pages that take 20 seconds to load WILL NOT CONVERT. Most surfing timers are around 10 seconds, so the promo page should take no longer than 2-3 seconds to load. The faster the better. It needs to be eye catching and attention grabbing.

If you are promoting a webmaster forum – don’t just put your forum index page url in there. Spend an hour putting together a fast loading page that has one quick to-the-point reason why they should visit your site.

The highest converting pages are not fancy – with lots of flash and pizzazz. All you need to do is put a table in the center of a page – put a brightly colored background on the rest of the page and something to grab their attention. In the example of a webmaster forum, you could take some of the hot topics that are being discussed on your forum. PageRank is a pretty hot topic to most people – so why not make up a page that has “Google PageRank Is Dead – How do you get high ranking pages in search engines? Click here to follow the discussion…”

Here is one that I put together in 5 minutes – feel free to copy the page source and change it as you would like: http://www.trafficbunnies.com/splashdemo.htm

Nice and simple. Fast loading. And – the final key. Link it to the thread where the discussion is going on. You will get people who are intrigued and ready to read more. If you are good at design, you can use images and catchy sentences but if that is not for you this will work fine.

Important: Make the link open in a new window. Traffic Exchanges work in frames – so people who are surfing do not want to have to stop their surfing to sign up or visit your site.

Try things out and see how it goes. If a page or catchy line isn’t working, then change it around a bit and see how that works. Some of it is trial and error, but – it’s completely free traffic so you can ‘afford’ to keep trying until you get it right.

Use the perceived disadvantages to your advantage. The Traffic Exchange Industry is about to explode, there are a few exchanges which are setting a new standard in traffic delivery – so get in now and start to benefit from the extra traffic today!
