Are torrent search engines illegal?

Hey there.

I am just wondering if it's illegal to run a torrent search engine.
Such as: http://www.torrentscript.net/

After all, the torrent files are not uploaded to the search engine, they are merely found by it.
Torrent files can also be found by the Google search engine through searches like "filename filetype:torrent".

So if torrent search engines would be illegal, then wouldn't Google also be part of the illegal activity?

 

If it for free and doesnt have any copy right issue then you can use them. After all every body else does.

 

Who tells you that torrent search engines are illegal? Running a torrent site is not illegal.

 

It is not illegal but depends what you are sharing.....

 

Well, most website hosting companies don't even allow them, for example Hostgator.
Torrent sites can get you in to a lot of trouble since you're basically giving a link to download copyright protected content.

That's why I was wondering about search engines, because they just list torrents from other torrent sites.

 

It's a grey zone. Same with nzb search engines.

A lot of nzb search engines has been targeted lately.

I would say offshore hosting is required and even then you might get in trouble.

It is legal. As long as you don't upload your own illegal torrents (movies, games, music, etc) you're good to go

As per a torrent site, it being illegal or legal depends on the laws of the country where your datacenter and server is

torrent are not illegal as long as you download the right file..

torrent search engines is legal, but google doesn't index search engines (it's in TOS or somewhere), at least it doesn't rank them well for a long time.

 

Not all torrents are illegal, but MOST (almost all) are. Can you trust sites that have them? Some of them are trustworthy, however, the torrents that you are downloading are NOT trustworthy at all. If I were you, I wouldn't be downloading torrents...

Legal if you use it as legal or illegal if you use it illegally, depends on you actually.

 

Actually Its depends on uses, I think its legal.

 

search engines are not illegal but some of the torrents might be illegal like movies , tv shows , cracked softwares etc all there are pirated and hence illegal.
