Are Titles Extremely Important?

Discussion in 'Search Engine Optimization' started by abcdefGARY, Nov 13, 2006.

hello, I made my website out of just interest so I did not plan on making it based on SEO.

all of my pages on my website are on the same title, which is my website URL with a little catch phrase.

I'm wondering if I really need to go over everything and change them one by one or is this okay?

it appears that I always have to click "In order to show you the most relevant results, we have omitted some entries very similar to the 4 already displayed.
If you like, you can repeat the search with the omitted results included." to lead me to pages that I actually want to be or I have to click "more results from .... "

    thanks in advance

Titles (title tag, and the title between H1 tags) are one of the most important on-page SEO items that you utilize.

Pages with same titles/description will get most of them de-indexed. I advice you start changing them to avoid this from happening.

And i forgot to say,the reason why you are getting the message "In order to show you the most relevant results..." is because of your pages having the same title. Yea you really need to get back to work. :)

Avoid using the same Title Tag throughout your site. Use a unique Title Tag for each web page and use keyword Phrases that hold theme relevance to that page. The sequence in which keywords appear in your Title Tag is also important.

The title is important, since it is the only thing that people see when your site appears in the search engines results. So a page with a good title will be clicked more often.

Does this mean the META tags?

If it does, isn't having the same META keywords okay with SEO?

    thanks

Yahoo loves title tag spam. Google does not.

A well crafted title tag can target multiple related key phrases without being spammy.

Something like this; <title>Key Word - We Love Keying Cool Ass Words<title>

That hits your main key phrase plus an "...ing" variation and a plural. And possible long tail 3, 4, and 5 word phrases. Such as "really cool words", "cool key words", "keying words with my ass", and "how can I be as cool as those other keyword assholes?"

Sorry, I'm already cracking up here over the example i just gave. It's good though:D

If you use the same title for all your pages, your pages will go to the supplemental index in Google. So better to a title matching to your content and keywords on the page. And when you link to pages, link it with appropriate anchor text matching the title of the page.

having with same Meta Tags (Title and Description) results as "Supplemental Results" by Google that why when u search for site:www.yourdomain.com, u'll get the message ""In order to show you the most relevant results, we have omitted some entries very similar to the 4 already displayed."

So, re-write those Meta Tags and submit again to Google by Google sitemap submission.

Title: It plays main role in SEO and the keywords present in the TITLE

Just imagin your self, if you are searching for something on search engine by entering particular words. SEs display the results. So, you will click the URLs containg those words you typed, am I right?

So Title is main priority and place the primary keywords in it.

Yes, page title is very important; as is the proper use of heading tags (H1, H2, H3, etc...)

Their importance is not only SEO, it's important to use proper titles and headings for usability. Your website users should be your #1 consideration if you want to get repeat traffic. A search engine will deliver people but if those people never return because your site is too confusing to use, you'll be back to low traffic levels quickly.

Another consideration to keep in mind is that your TITLE is used on SERP pages (all engines). The title of EACH PAGE has to be relevant to the topic of that page and inticing enough to make the person who is searching want to click it.

Avoid using the same title on all pages, not only because of SEO but because of usability.

On a side note, it's only a matter of time until the SEs start heavily weighing factors that have more to do with usability... their (search engines) ultimate goal is to improve the SERPs by providing people with relevant info that can help them... so it's only logincal that properly formated and functioning sites will get an advantage. Start now and you'll have the upper hand.
