Are this plan I've come up with for writing SEO optimised articles solid?

So I have concluded this should be a good set of rules.

    1) Aim for 500-750 words
    2) Use the main keyword in your title, the first sentence of your first paragraph and your last paragraph.
    3) Use another 3 target keywords approx every 100 words each. So keyword density combined of around 3%.

Linking back to my website I am not totally sure on. I figured 4 links, one for the authors website then another 3 that use keywords in them, each linking to a page on my website that has been named the same keyword such as I link to gifts for girlfriends and the page is called gifts-for-girlfriends.html.

How does that sound? Any feedback is much appreciated

    Thanks

Once you have the keyword in you page file name, title and first header or sentence, then I wouldn't worry about keyword density too much. Focus on originality and writing for your readers. If you are going to submit these articles to article directories, then check each directories linking protocols. Some only allow one or two links to your main URL.

Ok thanks for your advise, much appreciated! So are you saying it isn't so important to use these particular keywords any special number of time? Like I have 4 target search terms so I thought it would be better to use them in their entirety a few times in the article or is it fine to use words that make up these search terms scattered throughout again just looking natural and no more than 3%?

Your plan is fine. There is also evidence to suggest that placing the keyword in the title as close to the start as possible is best for SEO purposes.
For example if "Internet Marketing" is your keyword. "Internet Marketing - tips strategies how to make money online" is better than "Tips and Strategies for how to make money online with Internet Marketing."

In summary, his plan seems pretty nice. And @ nbie that's something to keep in mind is the best keyword should be in the title of the page. My idea would be to find 4-7 low competition keywords, and maybe 3 other 'fair' keywords as well. Traffic hopefully will fire from all cylinders like that.

Yes, be sure to target phrases when doing article writing otherwise you will be missing out on SE traffic. If you just have your kw floating in the title without any clear semantic order it will have a more difficult time ranking for a phrase. Example: What you didn't know about Flights. Is not the same as Flights you can bring Pets on. Both will hit on different searches, even though the main term here is Flights.
