hello every one ! ! i'm new to this forums discussions . actually i love having my own business.i started to know about website designing business and i got very much excited as am a student of computer science engineering too. i know about the skills that are required such as HTML,CSS,JAVA SCRIPT.are these enough skills to get into this designing of websites or do i need any other skills ?? guys ! i need your help very much . please spare a few seconds to guide me on how to enter this web designing business and how to make foundations better !
Maybe you can try to learn wordpress and/or Joomla too but if you know Dreamweaver and CSS you should be able to do web design already
Html, css, java script it should be enough for you to make themes that people may use and integrate them into whmcs and others alike for example. Html, css, java script is more like the basic knowledge that you require to have in order to start in the design industry and you can expand from there by learning php/ajax and other programming languages and see which one you like more and specialize in that one.
Total nonsense. There is no way you could ever hope to do this. Learn the big ones, pick the one you like best and specialise.
You are way to thin on skills and unfortunately you are getting some questionable advice. First off you have limited skills for on side of the development; the client. Without server side skills you will look like a fool dealing with any client with even a small amount of understand of the internet. You absolutely must be familiar with at least with at least one server side skipping language; my preference is PHP. Then unless all you intend to do is display information, and not interact you need to know enough SQL to be able to handle database interactions. You need command of graphics tools unless you are just going to borrow images you see along the way. So roughly you are about 35-40% along the way. Now let's deal with the CMS nonsense. When are competent in all the technologies used by the average bucket of crap CMS, you may decide that you want to experiment with some of the "easy to use" and shortcut junk that clutters the Internet. If you use third party code without have master the technologies it uses, you are an idiot and you will fail miserably after adding more worthless trash along with thousands of other wannabes who are in a big hurry to make themselves look foolish. Cd&
PHP yes but if the OP chooses something like WordPress it is entirely possible to design themes without handling any SQL.
Which means they can't support their client when there is a database or data security issue because they are limited to working through the layers of abstract that don't require knowledge and get in the way of trying to fix even the simple things. In the hands of a well trained, experience professional who knows what they are doing bloated, inefficient, hacker bait like Wordpress can be used to do some very nice looking sites. In the hands of the inexperienced and untrained the best you get is a mess that is unmaintainable, inefficient, and causes the client to think that Web Developers are just crooks looking for a quick buck.
The guy wants to be a designer. I wouldn't go to my designer for database or security issues - I'd be asking a developer or a hosting admin. I agree that designers should be able to query a database and understand structure etc but if the OP is trying to fast track his/her skills uptake there's already plenty to take on board. Presumably if he/she is doing a degree in computer engineering there will be some database management and security in there so that's already taken care of.
Hmmm.... yes they do say designing... so they have a really really biiiiiiig hole in the skills. The absolutely nee to have an intimate understanding of web graphics and not just drawing pretty picture or modifying photos they need to understand why a 1920x1000 bit map for a background is not a good idea.
COBOLdinosaur, you need a designer for your website in the signature " http://coboldinosaur.com/pages/scripts.html " Just my opinion but your website colors, fonts, size and everything else turns me off. I did not go as far as to request info...although I was interested
