Listen to bogart, gauharjk. he is a very smart guy. out of 3.5 million polish jews prior to WWII, only couple of dozen of thousand (35,000 if im not mistaken) survived.

I would like also to add the following:
My grandfather, who died recently at the age of 95, was an officer in the red army during WWII. He lost his eye in the Battle of Stalingrad. Many jewish officers served in the red army.

Russia was (and still) a pretty antisemitic country (if you want I can tell you more from what he told me), so he decided to leave to Israel, With my grandmother, whose whole family was murdered by the nazis in eastern USSR by the einsatzgruppen, and his only son, my father. The soviet union allowed only a short time interval in the early 70's for jews to emmigrate. Except for that, the communist ideaology did not stand in terms with "citizens leaving the social heaven" a.k.a the USSR.
Before he went on the flight (with 4 stops :), 1972), a member of the KGB (soviet secret state police) ripped off his decorations from world war II in the airport (if you met any old russian people, they carry those decorations even when they go to the grocery store...), spit in his face, and told him: "go away, dirty jew".
I have my first son/daughter coming soon. If it will be a son, he will be named after my grandfather. a great man.

From the beginning of the 90's, after the fall of the USSR, until 2004 or so, there was a massive flow of jews from Russia. Israel received an unprecedented number of 1.4 million jews, or an increase of the jewish population in more than 20%. Imagine that these people needed housing and jobs, and we did manage to make it for them. i.e., my family always hosted immigrant families as part of the national effort, I was volunteering 4 hours a week in teaching Hebrew to russians (Im a language freak - I speak 6 langauges fluently). Israel does make wonders, doesn't it? The fact looking at Israel gives you the creeps, is your problem. I think you should really get to bottom of the real reasons for that. There are still many people around the world who look at Israel and get absolutely thrilled from the very unique and unusual country, a capitalist democracy yet with so much solidarity, that they see.

Thanks for reminding us all that the destruction of Dresden saved a lot of lives and brought the war to a successful end much sooner. :)

My heart bleeds with sympathy for the Germans who started the war in the first place.

The Germans not only invaded Poland, Belgium, France, etc... etc... etc... an nauseam....but they were actually stupid enough to declare war on the United States.
