Are there other ways to exchange links other than blogroll?

What what you do in my position?

Right now, I'm using blogroll link exchanges to get links to certain pages of my site. However, because I want reciprocal link exchanges to certain pages and not just my homepage url, my blogroll is going to start looking ridiculously cluttered if I don't find another way to place my partner's links on my site.
I only have one site, so I can't send one way links.

The BEST way to exchange links IMO is to place them INSIDE your content... For your blog it would mean that you would link to your partners from within your posts.

For example, if I owned a blog about traveling to NY city, I might have categories like hotels, museums, bars, restaurants, ferry rides, walking tours, private clubs, gyms, etc. If I had some bar in NYC wanting to trade links and they wanted to rank for "Country Music Bar" then I would write a post about either 1) country music bars in NYC or 2) a review of that specific country music bar and place it in category "Bars". I would hyperlink the keyword phrase "country music bar" somewhere in that post, pointing the hyperlink at whichever page on their site they wanted to rank for "country music bar". This gives them the added advantage of having a relevant page about that targeted keyword phrase linking to them with the targeted link text. Doesn't really get better than that from an SEO perspective.

I would them ask them to do something similar on their site by linking to me from within the content of an article or something that they have about a topic I want to rank for...

Regardless of what method you use to exchange links... do NOT exchange links with sites that are not clearly relevant to your site. This would be considered by Google to be participating in a link exchange which is a violation of Google's webmaster guidelines and can lead to a penalty if you get reported.
