Are There Domain Test Drive Services?

I remember reading somewhere about a service where you can "purchase" a domain name on a trial basis.

Something like 7 days. The purpose of the service is to allow you to see if there is any traffic already hitting the domain, before you commit to it fully.

I've been searching and searching and can't seem to locate the article I originally saw, or any other information on this topic.

Has anyone heard of this type of service and if so can you point me in the direction of any info or registrars that are offering it?

    Thanks for your help.

Moniker, Pool, and Dynadot. For .com, it's 120 hours from its creation date.

Yup moniker and dynadot allow "tasting" of domains.

That's the term your looking at. Moniker will charge you $0.25 if you cancel within that time period and I believe dynadot charges you nothing.

When you taste domains with Godaddy, do they refund the full amount if you drop the name?

Hmm, I was under the impression that brand new domain names will not have any traffic coming to it natively as they are new. You mean you can get native traffic for a new domain name ?

@eddy, yes a brand new name can have type in traffic, this could apply to expired domains as well.

@ReadyToGo, I emailed GoDaddy and here's the reply I received:

I asked at monikor, but haven't received a reply. It doesn't seem to be a thing that they advertise on their site.

If the domain name existed in the past then it may have links to it.

If the domain name is a type-in type domain then it may get traffic.
