Are there any true alternatives to credit cards?

I wonder why there are no alternatives to visa/mastercard for making online payments. There are others like paypal but in the end they too depend on the credit cards.
Why a good alternative to credit cards has not been developed so far?

 

There isn't anything and will be nothing significant until shoppers/consumers want to use it. Commerce is consumer driven and not industry driven. The only real alternatives are ACH/echecks and other forms of direct account transfers.

 

The only other alternative to credit cards that I know is bank wire transfer. Other forms of online payment like Moneybookers and Neteller also use credit cards.

 

yeah agreed with Norman. Just bank transfer to bank transfer. wow money would truly be just an illusion in that case. :O

 

Isnt it odd that online payment systems should be dozen a hoy in 21st century and yet it is all based on CC providers?

 

What about online cash payments?

Cant do a moneygram or western union?

 

or see if you can do a bank check and send it to them?
