    Ummm, can you define "blackhat"???

Do you mean in violation of ToS? That depends on where/how you use the tool and what the ToS are.

Do you mean not get arrested? Marketers have been arrested for fraudulent activities but I don't think for using a tool.

Do you mean without upsetting your mother? Only your mom knows for sure.

Do you mean without feeling guilty?

Don't worry, everybody else is doing it ...

The two tools you mention are submission tools. If I use them to submit one article a week to three of my favourite sites where I am a paid member, how is that blackhat????

There are many tools that violate ToS by facilitating things like keyword/link stuffing, non-compliant redirects and other shady tricks, but if you are doing that you are already working "blackhat" marketing no matter what tools you use.

There are lots of things that you can do that are not black hat.

Automated article submission with automated article re-writing / spinning is black hat, and probably isn't going to do you a lot of favours to use anyway, as the content from a spun article is really poor.

Black hat is anything that is not according to for example Google's webmaster guidelines - so if you're producing good quality content that is relevant and useful to your readers, and not in any way SPAM, then that's okay. If you are they mass submitting this information, that is when you are going against the guidelines. If you are doing something only for the purposes of rankings, then that may be black hat.

The best and safest "tool" is doing it yourself. Just keep it clean by adding good unique quality content, submitting to article directors, forum posting (valuable posts) & social bookmarking. Building your backlinks on your own takes time but in the end it's completely worth it.

Now even though there are a number of article submission softwares out there but they are also one of the major reasons that sites suffer at the hands of the Search Engine penalties. If you want to play safe then go for manual submission.
