You can not increase battery life, but you can make it life more longer.

Usually battery have 300 recycle charging time before significantly drop slowly. So, if you charge your battery once every 2 days, than you will have about 2 years battery life.

    Important:

    1. Better to leave your battery from your laptop if you are working with electricity for long time (but you don't have backup when electricity down)
    2. Do not treat your battery at hot conditions.
    3. Do not save your battery without usage more than 1 month, at least you have to use your battery until it drop and charge until full 1 time every 2 weeks.

    Hi,

Make sure you charge your battery fully before unplugging it in the middle of charging. Doing it so will keep extend your battery life longer.

There might be power saving options on your laptop, make sure to check the most efficient one of you're desparate, as this most likely comes at the price of system performance.

Some laptops just don't have batteries that can last very long. I mean they need replaced every two years. However some always seem to hold a charge very well. If you have purchased your laptop recently I'd see if there was a recall on your battery. Many Dells and sony's and other brands have recalled their batteries so it might be possible to get a new one for free. As far as getting them to last longer it's best to do what jopling suggests and to always charge your battery completely before unplugging it from the ac power.

Most probably your laptop battery is dying if age more than 1.5 years for Li-ion laptop batteries only have 500 times charge-dischrge recycles.
The battery life mainly depends on hardware configuration, running aplications and screen brightness, But only 5 mins seems the battery can't held too much capacity because it is old, Just try for a new one.

If you battery works for only 5mins then you really have to replace it.

Unplug your laptop when it is fully charged and let it discharge while you are using it.. plug it back in when the charge is almost zero.

Laptop's battery life can be increased by proper use of it. Battery life can't be exceed from more than 2 years of purchase. 12 cell battery can have 3 years long life.

*Keep your system clean, in and out. dust and dirt are the most common causes of overheating.
*Always keep your laptop running as long as possible.
*Perform check disk twice a week, If the check discovers several hundred errors, your drive could be full of bad sectors - you'd best backup your important data and then try to get it repaired.
    *Get an anti-virus program.
*When your system clock starts losing time, Replace your CMOS battery.
*When opening a PC Case to conduct a repair dont forget to unplug your Laptop.
