There is a lot of talk about marketing and listening on social media websites. I want to know if anyone has come across a social media website that was built specifically for the marketing of products?
If the site only exists to promote products, then who is the audience? For any social media site to work it needs an active community and reciprocal interaction. I don't think such a site exists as long as I am understanding what you mean.
Great point. I've been thinking though. Social media is the new norm for marketing, but no site exists in the truest sense for this purpose? Ideally, customers would come to you ready to purchase whatever it is that you are selling. What site does this? I can't believe Facebook or Twitter is it.
Social media is far from new, only popular now that more people are starting to use it. There are many sites for marketing products, but not one for everything except ebay.
This is true. I guess Amazon falls under this category as well. I'm thinking there has to be a website that connects sellers and buyers upfront. For instance, say you are a seller and online. A buyer comes along and instead of clicking a link to a website, they click a link and get you. That starts a conversation about the product. So it connects buyers to the sellers in person instead of buyers to a squeeze page.
I don't know yet. I want to find the best platform for selling affiliate products or maybe some kind of service. Why do you ask?
Marketing deals all with finding your audience and then targeting them. Social media works for a lot of things, but not everything (in my opinion). I guess you really have to find out who your audience is first, then figure out how you can reach them. Facebook is excellent for marketing casual type products (movies, games, sports stuff, etc.) Particularly anything that anyone likes to do in their spare time is good for social media stuff. Selling staplers or other office supplies is probably less likely to work since you are targeting business owners in most cases where they have their minds set on business, not leisure. Sorry for the rambling post, but hopefully it was helpful on how or why you would want to target social media platforms like Facebook/Twitter/MySpace.
FB does allow and has a vast network so it's the best for that. stumbleupon is also good one. So as Hubpages. custom fan page | custom facebook fan page
No such site exists because it defeats the whole purpose of "social media" which is to be social and interact with users. A site which serves that purpose would just attract marketers/spammers.
