Are the Holidays slow for Search Engine Traffic?

I haven't even been building websites for a full year, so I'm not sure of the cyclical shifts in traffic. I mean, I know the college financial aid website gets more traffic about certain topics at different times of the year, but I seem to be noticing a more specific trend - tell me if I'm crazy but:

People seem to spend more time online at work and less during a holiday.

Does anyone else notice a similar trend, or am I just slacking on my linkbuilding / having an off day? Is it that more date/season-specific sites get all the traffic and total volume stays relatively the same? I'm just wondering if this is a fluctuation I should count on and/or diversify to include something along the lines of a seasonal site.

Yes, just like it's common in many niches to either see an increase or decrease in traffic over the weekends.

Depends on your niche, what holiday, and a lot of things. Some holidays I get a lot more traffic, some a lot less. It's been really hard for me to predict what will happen because it does not seem to follow a simple trend.

For most niches holidays will bring down the traffic, however certain niches do well at certain holidays.

    My dear friend

It's all depends upon three things

    1) Niche
    2) Type of visitors
    3) Special day ( including needs of visitors )

so you can't exactly define but you can get some idea by optimising on regular basis and response from visitors.
Only and ultimate solution is to understand the visitors and get response from them your problem will solve.

Cool Mate and Enjoy your day

I am REALLY feeling it. my site has been open for business since early february and i've had a steady 2 sales a day since mid-feb. i've had no sales for the past 2 days and by the theory of this topic i can expect maybe 2 more between now and tuesday :S NOT good.

i've properly promoted my easter offers as well - giving out double e-loyalty points and so forth. people are hard to convince!

    Yes depends on your niche....

For instance I have a nanotechnology info site which is used mainly by universities and companies etc - goes from 8000 uniques daily to 2000 over the weekend
